Hello friends and fellow music makers.

I am new to this forum. Although I have used Yamaha Keyboards before, it has been a long time, about when the S 910 came out and I had a PSR 630 which I loved and still have.

My question is about the  EQ settings. It seems very complicated, even from the 910 from what I remember.

Can anyone suggest a particular group of settings for just regular home playing using the on-board speakers and another for use in an auditorium type setting where a professional audio set up will amplify the sound?

I am having a real hard time figuring out this part of the keyboard and would like to have some user options before I make all kinds of registrations that will have to be changed later on.

I also find that the "Touch" function is kind of one size fits all, which is never the case. When on, the R1 &2 voices become so low that they can hardly be heard and all kinds of changes to other volumes have to be made.

Any advice here would be appreciated. I will surely have more questions as time marches on. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

With the S-910, the standard smiley seems to work best:

EQ1=4
EQ2=2
EQ3=1
EQ4=4
EQ5=8

These settings will bring up those very low and very high voices that need a bit of extra oomph, while keeping voices such as the piano and vibes in a good quality range. It will produce lots of sizzle on those high-hats and produce a gut thumping bass.

Hope this helps,

You "should" have the Touch function on, because this makes the sound change depending on how hard you hit the keys. And this makes your playing more expressive and interesting.

There's a setting that determines how the keyboard reacts to your touch, which ranges from "soft" to "hard". If you find that it's very quiet when touch is on, you probably want to have this set to "soft". (Press Direct + Touch to get to this setting)
