Hi good people! I hope some of you could answer at my question.
On my Tyros2 keyboard when I want to play a midi file with the guide to make my wife to learn a song some midi stop at the note that must be played, but a lot of other midi
don't. Is there any way to make other midi to behave in the right way? Is there anything in the file midi that can be changed. I can edit the midi file in any way to make it play
in the way as some of the other stopping an waiting for the note to be pressed on the keyboard?
Thank in advance. Regards to all of you.

Hi Aldus,
On your screen when these midis play is the correct melody channel is displayed as a sheet music?
As default, the keyboard plays channel 1 as Right hand and channel 2 as Left hand.

T think you must find the correct melody channel and display it on the screen as Right hand.

Hi Aldus.

You could try using the keyboard 'Song Creator' to add the 'Guide Setting' parameters to one of the problem songs as follows:

Load your song (or ideally a copy of it)!

I'm not sure if you need to have the 'Guide' panel button turned on here, but you could try the following procedure with it both off and o to see if it is necessary.

Press 'Digital Recording'  and select 'Song Creator'

Tab to 'Channel' page and select option 5: 'Setup'

You should already be at the start of the song unless you have played it, but you can press 'Stop' in the Song Player panel buttons if you like to make sure.

Make sure that 'Guide Setting' is checkmarked in the lower half of the 'SELECT' list, but leave the rest of the items as they already are.

Press 'Execute' to add the parameters that are checked in the Select list to the beginning of the song.

Save the modified song.

Now try playing the song with the Guide turned on.

Even if the above works, you might like to try simply slowing down the tempo of a song that you are learning instead of using the Guide function!

Hi. Thank you. I will try tomorrow and let you know. It's my wife the learner....   ;D
She needs the guide.

Hello to  tyrosaurus! I have tried in the way you told me....but nothing happens...
I think some midi files has a byte on or off that tells the keyboard to be able to play it in  that way,
in  guide mode as it is.
I have downloaded 4 different midi files, same song  but only one plays as desired.  :-)
I will try to understand what is the problem.
Regards to all of you for any future hints.

I never used this function and just tested it.
I would use it if they still showed a virtual piano on the screen like the Y.E.S does in less expensive models.
Who was the one who thought that buying a Tyros or a psr s means that we can read sheet music? :)

Seems like the channel you display on the screen with he melody and the channel on the Guide must be the same for the guide to work.

So,
1.Find the channel with the melody line you want (e.g cannel 4)
2.Press Direct Button+Guide
3.Set track1 to channel 4.(on Channel Settings,on my psr is down to the left)
4.Press escape and practice the midi.

I think you must do this every time the melody channel of a midi is not channel 1.

Hi Aldus,

If the MIDIs that you have downloaded are not commercial ones, why not post one of them that does work with the guide function, and one that doesn't.

We could take a look at them and see if we can identify any differences.

Hi Ian try this one if you wish.(the Desireless_Voyage_Voyage.mid)
The guide is following channel 1 by default on my s750.
The melody is on channel 4.
If I display channel 4 as a right hand playing on my screen, the guide still keeps following channel 1 playing and not channel's 4.
It is a pretty good midi,it also contains lyrics.

(The "Voyage cover s493.mid" is recorded on the s750,live playing with a style)

I don't know if on tyros there are more options but still by changing the Guide's right hand channel from the default 1 to channel 4,the Guide is working.

Just a tip related to non Yamaha midi files:
If someone wants to add chord marks to a midi file which it doesn't contain them,
he needs a midi cable and he must multi-record the song on his keyboard and make sure that on the midi settings of the keyboard he will choose the correct channel which will help the keyboard to detect the chords.
(There is this option on midi settings)
