Hi there my musical friends,

So the Windows Media Player can play midi files but it can only play to the built-in (lame) MS GS Wavetable Synth.  There is no way to select your keyboard even when you have the midi driver installed.

Help is available though: There's a Midi Mapper utility at this website - https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/midimapper

After you install this software it will enable you to select your keyboard midi driver and set is as a default and then software like Windows Media Player will play midi files to your keyboard.

Regards,
Richard

Going one better.

There's a midi player which will also show the lyrics in a midi file. This is the VanBasco Karaoke Player. http://www.vanbasco.com/karaokeplayer/

The nice thing is this player combined with your keyboard, will play backing tracks created with my Midi Maker software and so we have a great combination to make and play your own karaoke songs to your keyboard. I will update MM2 to use this software as an external player. (It does not need the Coolsoft Midi Mapper).

UPDATE:
To set up Vanbasco to use your keyboard, turn the keyboard on (make sure you have installed the midi driver) and then click the little music note in the VanBasco software. This brings up another window where you can click setup and select your keyboard driver (usually Digital Workstation-1 or 2)

Regards,
Richard
