What do people expect from this update?
I feel this is a big update, because yamaha never had a video trailer like that before.

I expect and hope that Yamaha Expansion will be upgraded with the ability to create Custom for REVO drum, and a more complete version of Yamaha Audio Phraser.

I agree... Very important for me is to fix the Audio Phraser to create correct own Audio Styles (User Audio Drums) without desynchronisation in tempo changes, and to play the Fill correct (on time)...
I hope and I wait more features with Audio Phraser, and more bug fix, new features etc....

All Genos owners will be grateful and happy with their new 1.4 update ( June 2019 ).

Thank you Yamaha for all your efforts to make the Genos a real Digital Workstation !💐

I am almost convinced more Genos updates will follow in the near future.😁

In the web page announcement, it reads, "Genos: The Journey Continues." That title implies a lot more than simple bug fixes and minor add-ons. It sounds like they've added a lot more "stuff." No wonder it took so long. They can't just add a bunch of stuff and hope it works right. They have to test all the possible combinations of how the updates can affect the OS as a whole. Can't wait to see what they bring to the table. Well done, Yamaha!
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.

That's a very positive development.  I'm hopeful the newly added Live Control features will be included in the next PSR arranger as well.

+1

Having been there with software development and updates, it's a long slog for the developers and testers, too.

Yamaha's pre-release announcement is unusual, even WRT synth products. I suspect that the team missed their April Musikmesse deadline and committed to June. That's not all that unusual, especially for a team that puts quality above schedule. The old joke, "Cost, schedule, quality. Choose two."   ;D

Have fun playing in the meantime!

Somehow i can hear the sarcasm in your voice...
but don't worry, us Genos owners don't mind..
We can understand non Genos owners being a little jealous about this update..

I don't think however thats where this update is about...
This is more about convenience updates and extra very welcome new options for allready excisting features..

Bachus

Guess this was supposed to be some major musikmesse news..
But there wasn't any press covering the musikmesse..

Kudos to Yamaha for doing this and congrats to all the Genos users!

QuoteIt represents Yamaha's commitment to not stand still as we continue to expand an already incredible musical instrument... and the journey is not over.

This says it all, we can expect pretty much the same treatment as they have been giving to Montage/Modx and the new CP88 series.

Now only wondering what took them so long?
But then, the fun of new upcomming features makes that a worry of the past..

Another thing that comes to mind, is longlevity..
With this way of thinking, time between new models could be 5 years or longer..
Which is a good thing for everyone including Yamaha..

To Yamaha,

For the next PSR arranger...

1. Please include the Live Control options assignable to the foot pedal.

2. Include in the MIDI Data Formats; sy*** for the Live Control parameters (especially the arpeggiator parameters like Arp Velocity, Unit Multiply and Arp Gate Time, and Arp Hold On/Off.

3. Increase the capacity of the on-board MIDI sequencer.  This is necessary due to the arpeggiator and the increase in continuous controller data that are use in contemporary dance styles and Multi Pads.

You have always included complete MIDI formats with your Pro XG sound modules and Pro synthesizers, why not include these with the arranger for the "power users"?

Thank you for your consideration of these ideas.

The announcement doesn't mention the United States? Or is Europe the Guinea pig?

I have often wondered why there are 2 empty spaces on page 1 of the main menu. I would have expected the empty slots in page 2.
Watch these spaces ??  ;)

I think you're likely to be disappointed.

Tempo changes in audio files always lead to some sort of degradation. If you want to control the tempo, stick to midi files.

Dear Fred Smith.
Since the preset audio styles work normally and follow the tempo changes exactly like the midi styles, I think it is problematic for it not to work in the user audio styles.
This is the purpose of the Audio Styles; to follow the midi tempo correctly with the time strech method...
As a professional producer of Ketron audio styles I know this procedure\method.  :)
I work 10 years with Ketron Audya only with Audio Styles without problem..
Here with Audio Phraser and Genos after few bars and when we change the Tempo (of an User Audio Style), the Audio and Midi get desynchronized... It's not Normal..

Hi Bachus :

No sarcasm at all.
I really mean what I said : I am very glad and happy Genos owners will receive what they deserve. 😁

Babette

JohnS (Ugawoga)

It would be great if Yamaha updated the music score section to display chords and better scoring ( get rid of bouncy red dots) as that is the only way i see that there would be a need for displaying the screen on to a monitor screen.
Otherwise i cannot see the point of putting the Genos screen on the tv screen.
Also an automatic stylemaker would be the order of the day!!! ;D ;D ;D  plus whisky replicator dispenser software and access to the Holo-deck. Maybe the flux capacitor is too costly.!! :-\
We all can then get free Tin Foil hats and a flying teapot  :)

Its not what Genos owners deserve..
Its something all Current model PSR players desere to

So why not adding what Joe asks below to the current psr-s series?

Specially the last sentence  ;D ;D ;D

It suits perfectly my predictions here:

They are also calling it an "extensive update..."

panos

That's good news at last.
I hope that companies will understand the power of pc's in playing, making music with a cheap midi keyboard and try to promote more their models that have something that pc's yet cannot reproduce and that is keyboards with styles like the Genos.

I hope they also update Yem and allow us to create megavoices and S.art voices
