save midi settings

I went into the midi settings of my S900 - the display said 'MIDI OFF' -- I keep changing things, turning on receive channels, making sure the midi is set on internal clock, etc... after I get it all set up, I hit EXIT.   I don't see any 'save' function - But that takes me back to the main Midi options and the lower right still says MIDI OFF. Editing that only lets me reset everything but the moment I exit, it returns to MIDI OFF. How do I get this ON?
