Hey guys. Lately I have had the problem that my usb thumb drive all of a sudden says its write protected. Cant even get it to reformat on PC or my psr s770. Is this a sign that it is broken? Is there a fix.  Also, what would you recommend as a dependable brand of usb thumb drive? I know mine are pretty cheap. Thanks

Roger Brenizer

I use some very large SanDisk USB drives (256 GB) and they are very reliable.

You may want to Google "Removing Write Protection from a USB Drive", prior to purchasing a new drive.  You may find that you can repair your failing drive with ease.  :)

Can I write-protect a USB Drive in my computer so that it's write-protected in my s970?

Also (a bit tongue in cheek, this, Roger), but elsewhere in this forum we are warned off from using Google because they profit from my so doing.

The answer to my question seems to be "no". I write-protected a USB Drive in my laptop (RUN DISKPART), but I could still delete files on it in my s970. I suppose if a bought a USB Drive with a switch on it, that would answer.

It would appear you found the answer as it applies to your PSR-S970 keyboard.  Here's some additional information you may be interested in, Alan.  :)

I'm sorry, Alan, but I forgot to include the link.  I received a phone call just as I was about to finish the post and failed to include the link.  :(

I'll modify my post, above, to include the link, but I'm posting it here to make sure you will see it.

Thank you Roger. Your link doesn't work for me. It presents me with a page headed in large letter, "Oops" and then "Our servers failed you". It would appear that I'm required to sign up for something called Techrepublic.

I've bought a switchable USB Drive which meets my needs.

I'm sorry the link didn't work for you, Alan, but I'm glad you solved your problem with a switchable USB drive.  I have some of those too.  :)

I've never signed up for the TechRepublic news letter and I can always access their website.  It may just be a matter that some countries can't access the site without signing up.  :(

A year ago I had a problem with the keyboards usb and it couldn't been read by the keyboard or the pc.
I have used this program and recovered nearly all the files from the usb(mostly styles and my own recorded midis) and saved them on my pc.
