Hello friends!
I always make MIDI files of my recordings, and got a little surprised when I tried to play one of those on my T5. I had made the MIDI on a PSR, and the Tyros only played the left hand, no lead voices. i checked the Tyros, and all the voices were there, but they wouldn't play. I got help from a friend here, and he explained that the identification number of the voices had been changed, so
the MIDI didn't find them! I have now discovered that this is true for several songs and styles I have. So I wonder: Is there a reason for changing these numbers??? Why, oh why have Yamaha done that? Why isn't the number the same on all keyboards? Maybe there is a logical reason for this that I, just an end user, don't see? Just wondering.....

Yamaha has done that because the voices are different.

If the voice is exactly the same, then Yamaha maintains the same number. But almost all voices are tweaked ("improved" from Yamaha's point of view) from one keyboard to the next. How would they sell a new keyboard if the voices are exactly the same as the old ones?

Cheers,

Thanks Fred. So there was some logic behind it after all! Yamaha logic :)

Yes Yamaha logic isn't allways straightforward...
Yamaha note numbering is different, on other keyboars middle C is allways C4, on Yamaha its C3..
While both being midi note number 60

And then there is the keywith of the fsr keybed (and probably all other yamaha keybeds) its a tiny bith smaller then the standard keywith,..  making a yamaha 61 key, about 1 key (about an inch) shorter in total width then other manufactorers.

There is a lot of Yamaha logic, one needs to understand...
