From the PSR FAQ (Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login )

B.5.       What programs are available for making styles from midis

There are programs available for doing this job. Links to all are available at: Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login .

Midi2Style is free and easy to use. It makes most of the decisions for you.

CasmEdit is free, and operates like a spreadsheet. It requires more knowledge on how to make styles, but you can do anything.

StyleWorks is not free, but does a lot of the work for you.

One Man Band is a PSR style based real-time arranger and style editor that also makes styles from midi files.

MixMaster supports cutting and pasting midi patterns into a existing style or a style template. Changes to the Casm must be made in CasmEdit, CasmEditor or the instrument's StyleCreator.

StyleMagic is not free, but it can create styles in both Casm formats. It has gotten good reviews.

thank you very much Michael,

i also was requesting for creating styles using DAW without midi files, since for any custom song we wont be getting midi files, also for few of the Indian style i do not have Midi files. hence i am approaching to create a style without any midi files,

we can create easily a Indian percussion rhythm pattern using any DAW , so is there any chance to convert it to style file?

i have few Indian style files which seems not created using any inbuilt keyboard software , but by using any outside software. so i was amazed to find any solution to create our own style file in DAW without any MIDI.

Thanks & Regards,
David

Hi David --

I'm not sure what you're looking for, here, but Yamaha style files are Standard MIDI Files (SMF) with two additional, proprietary format chunks (CASM and OTS). The MIDI part holds the MIDI events while the CASM chunk holds note transposition info and the OTS chunk holds the OTS info.

If you change the extension of a style file to .MID, you can import the file into a DAW. Most DAWs throw away the CASM and OTS chunks. That's why you need a tool that knows about CASM and OTS. The tools for Jorgen and Michael B are quite effective and know how to handle or create the CASM and OTS chunks. Personally, I can't live without their tools and there isn't a day when I don't thank Jorgen and Michael.

Jorgen's split/splice tool is handy. It splits a style file into MIDI and non-MIDI (CASM/OTS) parts. After editing the MIDI part in a DAW, it splices the MIDI and non-MIDI parts back together. If I'm starting with just the MIDI events, I use his CASM editor to create an initial CASM chunk. Same for OTS.

All the best -- pj

Thank you PJD ,

I got some new and valuable informations.

lets put it in simpler way hope that makes you get what really i am looking out for a chance ( and sorry for asking it again )

Currently i am using Fruity loop and Cu-base 5 DAW, using these DAWs i can easily create a groove or rhythm pattern. is it possible to convert it to STY files?

Thank you in advance,
David

Have set up Jorgens "split and splice",and am pleased with it's elegant modus. It splits a .STY fine, but after editing ,I can't
see how to select the edited type 0 mid and the .nmi file together for splicing. One seems to cancel the other, resulting in a 0 bytes "newfile name".STY

You don't have to specify two different filenames-- just one filename, and the program automatically uses the same filename (with a different extension of course) for the other file.
