Hello Heidrun,
I use Microsoft Edge and have no problems at all.
Eileen

Gunnar Jonny

At SW site, Firefox and Edge both works fine with Win10-64bit.
Compability issues at some sites at the web are the reason that I have several browswers installed.
There has also been some issues with Edge that Chrome solved nicely, so if problems show up, just try another browser.
But as we can see at SW site, it's not always easy to see what keep you away from register, specially when tickboxes don't show up. ;)

Heidrun

Again thank you for your help!

What is always interesting to see:

It seems that no one has the idea to keep his smartphone in landscape format.
It makes no sense to use portrait format with such a lot of pictures as we have.

But to do it without them and only to use text information would be too less for my taste... ;-)

Kind regards, Heidrun

Heidrun

Also the Internet Explorer works.

Safari 11.4.1 only shows mini-dots instead of the checkboxes.
But these dots may be "switched" on and off.

With both browsers the spam protection works.

Heidrun

Only to give you some ideas that it is not possible to have only one standard for all browsers, here a list of browser apps.
Each of them has its versions - and each version has its own problems!

Portable devices are the future. Auto landscaping is here anyway, but mobile/tablet browsers zoom a page accordingly (whatever the page layout) IF you use a decent browser.
Heres a portrait view on my smartphone of the site, followed by a landscape version.

Portrait .. then Landscape  .. so in landscape you see larger but less of the page .. got it?
More to follow.

Ok Al,

you probably have a full HD or 4K screen.
Here also portrait is ok!

But there are also folks that visit us in portrait and 340px width...
What shall we do with them?

;-)

AlBags

Decent mobile browsers have a 'Desktop View' setting, which uses the websites desktop display. I use sometimes, as some websites' components do not work properly on the mobile browsers setting.
Unless you wish to go along with what Microsoft or Google almost forces upon us, ask developer to test in Firefox Desktop and Mobile browsers, and also Internet Explorer & Edge. Edge is the new thing in W10. It is a long way from perfect. Many PC users like the fexibility of Browser addons to do different things (A biggie with Firefox) Probably the most universal browser all round at the moment.
I have the best of both worls, as my Android phone connects to a Dell 27" widescreen and dispays in HD exactly as phone screen, portrait or landscape.
I just use PC or laptop for YEM, etc.

Hi

Best practise is using adaptive or responsive web design...

These methods simply rearrange the page components according to the actual screen width: No small screen text, no horisontal scrolling etc.

SAME CODE FOR ALL LAYOUTS

Check my site!!!

Jørgen

check 1 col and 2 col layout for smartphone
and 3 col and 4 col for pc

Everyone will HAVE to have HD screens in the end .. they will be forced to by either 1) Old one broken, or 2) minimum requirement to display anything!
That is what will put DVi and especially VGA connections out of business.

In the interim ... Edge browser by Microsoft replaces Internet Explorer, but there are many problems with it. If you have one working long-term, you are lucky.
Many just switch to Firefox or Chrome. Both have matching mobile app versions.

Yes, Jorgen's perfectly correct.
It depends on the software package being used to create the website.
Many are loathe to change from what they know though.
For now, stay away from too much 'Flash' content, as most mobiles cant/wont use it.
Java .. ok (it can be switched off easily, anyway)

Are you going to stay in the past with them ... or help them realise the future?

Jørgen,

Responsive design can only work properly if you work with no pictures - or much less as we do.

Allthough we have a mobile version that re-arranges parts of our pages - it is a kind of responsive design, but not for all screen withs.

Heidrun

QuoteAre you going to stay in the past with them ... or help them realise the future?

Ok, Al, probably we should collect for them that they also have a (minimum) Full HD screen... ;-)))

Well I have pictures at most pages at my site...
e.g. http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/fileorg/index.htm
and http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/articles/midi_12.htm
and http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/otseditor/index.htm

Heidrun

It was surely not simple to get all responsive, Jørgen...

Jørgen

Hi Heidrun

I read somewhere that you should start the design with the smallest screen - vertical smartphone. And then expand to the horizontal smartphone.
Many problems arise if you start with a very wide dsign and then make it narrower ...

Works for me...  ;)

Jørgen

Heidrun

Yes, Jørgen.
But to have both: Pages that pleases the eyes and offer 100% functionality are hardly to reach.

It is similar with our keyboards and programming software for them.

If you always have to take into account the smallest and oldest keyboard model, you will never have a chance to programme also software that shows the sounds and functions of a Genos.

It will always be a compromise!

Kind regards, Heidrun
