SFF1 styles

Greetings to you all.

While checking through an old external hard drive I can across a rar folder called Yamaha and on extracting found it contained over 1000 styles. Put some on a USB disk and plugged into the Tyros 4 and did not show them.
so checked them with van basco's karaoke player and found they are are SFF1 styles.

the player plays them fine and gives a break down of contents.

Example:- 
SFF1
Slnt
Main A
Fill In AA
Ending A
Main B
8Beat Light
YAMAHA Corp. 1995

The last line  states "Yamaha Corp" date  varies 1995 , 1997 and some 1999.

   The whole list of sty files is a:-  READ me first .txt   and you can look through it to see if any are of use to you.
Let me know here which ones   you want/need. I can only attach 6 at a time.

Possible you have too many styles in the folder. No Yammie will show than what's in that folder. I believe about 500 is the maximum. Your keyboard should play SSF1 as well as SSF2

I had 200 in the folder . It showed the folder name  but on trying to open it nothing showed . I well start from scratch and format the usb on the tyros 4 and go from there. just put on 100 and check again.

Just done a search and tyros 4 cannot play SFF1 styles,  but can play  SFF2 format.

You can use a program from Jososoft, our friend Jorgen made a program to convert SSF1 to SSF2 but this is the first time I hear that a Yamaha keyboard can't play SSF1. But for everything is a first time isn't it. Wish you success and have fun!

I did not see CASM on this list, that's more important than SSF1/2
I use StyleMagic for everything to do with styles
Even making styles,

I put the first style through StyleMagic and tweaked it a little and it plays ok on my PSR

If any of the other style are as basic and non melodic as this style then I wouldn't bother doing much to them, styles have come forward a lot since the early days of this style,

Actually, he doesn't have a program to convert SFF1 to SFF2; it goes in the other direction, from SFF2 to SFF1.

As far as I've ever heard, any keyboard that can play SFF2 files can also play SFF1 files-- and when you load SFF1 files into them, they automatically convert the CASM data to the SFF2 format, and if you save the styles to new files the keyboard will save them as SFF2 files. Thus, converting SFF1 files to SFF2 files is usually done by loading the files into the keyboard and then saving them again-- at least, that's my understanding.

Would  you go into more detail how to get the Tyros 4 to recognize  the SFF1 styles. because not being able to see them sort creates a big block.

I don't know where you got this 'information' from, but I can assure you that the Tyros4 can play both SFF1 and SFF2 styles!

I have just downloaded the five styles that you posted and tried them on my own Tyros4 without modifying them in any way, and they are all listed and play fine!  Thanks for these by the way.

Some of the styles only have 1 or 2 Intros and Endings, and 2 Main variations, which is typical of styles from the entry level PSRs and early DGX's.  However these load and play fine on the T4, with the buttons for the missing style sections simply remaining unlit.

None of the ones that you have already posted contain OTS.

The folder limit on a Tyros4 is 500, and although you can be in any selection screen to see folders, if you open a folder only the file type that match the header of the selection screen will be displayed.  So if you are in say the VOICE selection screen, you will see the folder listed, but when you open it, no styles will be displayed!  Could this be why you couldn't see the styles on your own T4?

Regarding posting the styles,  you can add them to a zip archive which can then be attached to a forum post.  The maximum size is quoted as 7 MB but you can attach up to 6 of these to a post.  From your '.txt' directory listing, the total size of all the styles is just over 13 MB (unzipped).  So you might have to split the styles into two separate zips, but you wouldn't then have to bother posting individual styles requested by people.

I am here to also assure that any Yamaha keyboard made since 2000 can play SFF1 styles. No tweaking is needed to them.

your explanation is excellent. I will give it another go on the Tyros 4.
have just foematted the USB disk on it noow making a folder and will put 100 SEE1 styles in it and follow your instructions.
will do another USB with no folder and just one style loaded in it.

thank you all who put me on the right track.
you were right  SFF1 styles do play well on the Tyros 4.
I was going to the flash drive the wrong way.
now sorted. In this process,  I worked out how to completely change a  midi file on the Tyros, of course Yamaha can't call them midis.
"Songs" are what  they call them. Duh.
