I am registered as a Tyros owner
When looking at the packs I selected S970 as my instrument

You have to go through the purchasing process and enter the "promo pack code" and that's it.

I have a Tyros 4 as well, did the exact same thing as you did, but can't get it to work.

They work good in a PSR 970

Maybe the 'Free Packs' were for PSR only

I think Yamaha took a pity on us PSR players
Cos we haven't big money like you Genos and Tyros guys 😂

I bought a couple of packs from Easy Sounds and when I bought them for my PSR S970, I got a message that they are good for the Tyros and Genos as well.  These packs were NOT copy protected.

The promotion code freepackpsr still works as of today, October 2, 2018.

Initially the Yamaha MusicSoft site showed no matching voices and styles expansion packs for me.  I had to login / logout, re-entered instrument file etc several times, and finally the compatible PSR-S expansion packs showed up and became available for selection.

Hi Al,

The free pack is for PSR-S line, not for Genos.  So if you only register your Genos with Yamaha MusicSoft, you may not be able to find these voice and style expansion packs.  I purchased a PSR-S970 before and already registered its instrument file with Yamaha MusicSoft.

Since PSR-S970 and Genos both use SWP-70 tone generator, the voice and style expansion packs for PSR-S970 can be installed and played on Genos properly - Yamaha's own non-third-party voice and style expansion packs come as .PPF files, meaning that we can install these packs on different compatible Yamaha arranger keyboards.  Third-party expansion packs usually come in .CPF format, which usually only allows us to install on the licensed keyboard only.

Yes, I tried 28 different PSR-S voice and style expansion packs on Genos, and all of them played properly.
