I'm happy with my S970 and not gonna upgrade it to 975 coz it's not worth it.. Good luck with your new toy Yamaha..

konaboy

don't see anything here that excites me, the S980 will be more interesting with some trickle-down technology from the genos.

Great dissapointed. Still SA2! Voices and Mega!Choir voices are not included in PSR keyboards.

While adding some interesting things, I do not know if it would be worth changing my s970 for s975.
The s975 is only a small update to the s970, but it's not a new keyboard.
Maybe it's better, at least for me, to continue with s970 until the next release (Psr s990 or g990 or s1000, etc.)
with other functions and features besides those placed in the s975.
They did with the s975 pretty much the same thing they did before the s900 for s910.

Thanks to all who have read these words,
Enildo
May be this is like slight updating like PSR-2000 to PSR-2100 and
PSR-1000 to PSR-1100. But the next release PSR-3000 had lot of improvement.
I hope we can expect more next to PSR-S*75.

I think this keyboard has been produced more for the Asian marked. Hence the S button which contains a lot of ethnic styles I believe.

I think the 975 would be great those SA2 voices are nice violin trumpet I will miss them.
I will wait for a few demos but I might sell my T4 it is getting heavier, the size and weight
of the 975 same as the 970 which I will keep as I need two keyboards.
the 975 will probably sound good with one bose better two or 400 I will can cover the rest
on board speakers I like that too.
over 65 now I was hoping for better considered the PA 1000, but don't want to learn the
operating system, 970 and 975 basically the same set up

I now own an almost new PSR A3000, purchased a few months ago. but I'm already thinking of selling it, I want to buy s975, because it offers many advantages! I look forward to it with joy!

For those who own S970/S770 maybe is not good idea to switch.

For all those who own older keyboards than S970/S770 is very good opportunity to switch.

With half bar,Mono-legato,more expansion memory S975/S775 are Huge forwards compare S950 and older....

Very good keyboards for Eastern Europe/Balkan countries.

Good Job Yamaha.

But how to sell it when the S1000, small Genos arrives in maybe 1 year.

A totally new breed of S series

Maybe with touch screen + +

Talking about PSR-S970 Vs PSR-S975 (Voices)
While viewing the specification chart

In S970
989 Panel Voices, 41 Drum/SFX Kits
Featured Voices:
131 S.Art!, 30 Mega Voices, 31 Sweet! Voices, 74 Cool! Voices, 89 Live! Voices, 30 Organ Flutes!

In S975
1090 Panel Voices, 55 Drum/SFX Kits
Featured Voices:
140 S.Art!, 30 Mega Voices, 32 Sweet! Voices, 74 Cool! Voices, 99 Live! Voices, 30 Organ Flutes!

So in S975 there are 101 additional panel voices, 14 additional Drum/SFX Kits.
In featured voices 9 additional S.Art! Voices, 1 additional Sweet! Voice, and 10 additional Live!  Voices. But the Mega! Voice and Cool! Voice are same as S970.
So there won't be any new Mega Guitars, Mega Brasses and Mega Choirs given in TYROS5.

I'm hanging on to the S970.  Besides, I just added the Pa 1000.  Nice board.  The two models complement each other, with their own pros and cons.

The owner's manual, reference manual, and data list are now available on the (USA) Yamaha site. There is also a fourth document: The PLUS Contents List for the pre-loaded additional (PluS) content.

All the best -- pj

OK, so plus looks like voice + style from Euro Dance, style from Salsa, voice + style from (various?) ethnic packs, and multipads from all of those.

I had a quick scan through the manuals. The expansion memory is (a bit) bigger, and you can display lyrics from audio files, and there's the infamous mono legato + half bar fills.

But there does not appear to be any change to anything else (no new effect types for example).

If you're new to the market then obviously pick S975 over S970, but if you're already on S970 I see no real reason to trade up.

Bother, back to working out how to sneak a Genos into the house.  >:(

And those new Plus styles appear to be Salsa and EDM mostly... so is this really a keyboard for the Asian market.  Where is the Joystick if it's for Eastern music?  Yamaha should have used the A3000 board instead of the S970 board.

There are a couple of places in the UK advertising S975 on pre-order, "available February", priced £1930. They're selling S970 for about £500 less so I'd expect the price to drop a fair amount before it's actually available.

Hello Guys, I checked the PSR data list -S975, and it has the same sounds that come in the S970, (the same pianos, the same strings, the same section of winds and metals etc. etc.) what I think is can New as "EXTRA SOUNDS" are those that come in the folder PLUS (EDM and Salsa) and some minor changes (Monolegato, half bar stuffing, and foot controller for Live commands). As said before, this could have been done with a simple firmware update on the S970, but sadly Yamaha did not want to listen, because commercial interests come first, rather than providing good support and helping the needs of customers .    Greetings Hans

On the Italian Yamaha site, the new PSR-S975 is described as the "definitive" PSR. This implies that there will not be a PSR S990, just as there has not been a Tyros 6. Will the PSR series also turn the page? I think so ...
In Italy the PSR S970 several sites offered it to €. 1,550.00 (a good deal), this initially made me think that within a year the younger sister of the Ginos would be commercialized, in reality the output of the PSR S975 seems a commercial choice to cover the next two years, meanwhile sales of the Ginos will have stabilized and it will be time for the heir of the PSRs970 / 975 ...
as always excuse the bad English .. Pietro

I believe this is the Asian version with a little more memory added and the S button which I think contains more Asian type styles.

They added 2 expansion packs preinstalled.
From the specs it looks like the S button accesses the expansion packs.
I have not seen anything that would suggest a KB for the Asian market.

Hi Eileen, the PSR S 975 is advertised on the Italian site of Yamaha and on sale on reservation on a French site ... for those interested ... I attach links yamaha Italy and Woodbrass.com France (Euro 1.999,00).

Hello, is it possible to get the extra EDM styles for PSR-s970? How please?

Joe H

There is... but you will need the Yamaha Euro Dance expansion pack.  And they are better than what Yamaha gave us, if I have to say so myself.

:)

Hi, OK, it would be nice to hear some little demos of those Styles, which they appear not to offer... In any case thank you. :)

Joe H

You have got to be kidding!

Do you have any idea how much went work into creating those styles?  And how many more hours were required to convert them to play on 3 different keyboards?

I hope you like them and can make use of them.

Well, I took the plunge this morning and ordered a new Psr-s970 to replace my ageing s900 which I have to say has been a brilliant keyboard. Considering that recently 2 of the main variation buttons have started working intermittently and have joined the non functioning break button, I got a very good part exchange price against my new machine. I hope I have made the right decision not to go for the s975 instead but reading your comments on here I think I have made the right choice as the differences don't appear to be that great.

I'm now excited for it to arrive at the end of the week !  :)

Well, I now have my Psrs970, I have only had it for one day and I know I need time to get used to it but I have to say so far I regret the purchase. The sound isn't as good as my S900 in my opinion and although some voices are better I think Yamaha have ruined the default 'out of the box' experience. I used to rely on the main variation/OTS link when switching between styles, generally confident that the associated voice was suitable (admittedly not always), now however they appear to have selected poor voice choices, many of which are far too quiet to hear and require constant volume adjustment. I only play at home, for myself, and used to flow from one song to another usually without having to tweak too much, now I cannot, what is disappointing is that many of the same styles carried forward from the S900 now sound so different (well the voices anyway).

I need to understand how the organ voices work (any guidance appreciated!) as many are so quiet even when adjusted to 127 on the volume that they are not worth using.

At this point sadly I wish I had just paid to have my S900 buttons repaired, oh well, you live and learn !

🙁🙁

Rich

N.B. - fortunately I did have the presence of mind to save my S900 styles & voices onto a USB stick before I let it go, I am so pleased I did, at least I can enjoy playing them how I used to.

DerekA

I think this is actually a really common experience when replacing anything that we have a real attachment to - whether it's a keyboard, or a car, or a house ..

You do need to allow yourself a little time to adjust to the change, and be ready to feel a little uncomfortable at first.

Above all, remember, if you really did want to keep playing what you were used to then you would have fixed your S900. You wanted something different, and that's what you've got. I think in time you will be pleased with your decision.
