Hi

I have a Genos on order and after hearing the DXR speakers at a demo, I came to the conclusion that is the type of sound I want at home In my 10ft by 10ft room.
The genos speaker system really is not fantastic at all.
So I am recommended for pleasureable listening at home the DXR 8s ( Cut down version of what is played at demos without sub) and they have a very high wattage output amps or lower if that is RMS.
My thinking is even if that sounds like overkill after reading the spec , does the high power amps give more detail at much lower volumes  at room listening level.
These powered speakers have an excellent sound rating.
I do have a smaller set of monitors which I would use for mixing , but I want a great quality sound for general fun.
They are a £1000 a pair, so could I do better than that at lower cost or stick with what I have been recommended by the Genos tipsters.
I could go for HS8 or Focal Alphas or Adam Audio but they are flat response monitors and I have got a pair.
I like to make or hear music like hi-fi at a good quality as It would give you that  great sparkly feeling inside.
I do think you get what you pay for but It is a mind twister and I do not want to get It wrong at that price.

If you purchase and did not like them would you be  covered by a 30day return policy or is that just for faulty goods / Or can you say not suitable for you---A grey area there.
You can never hear speakers properly at shops as they are not your room  and you can get a false impression

What is your thoughts on that would be appreciated
All the best
John :)

What I am after is that  warm hi-fi sound at top quality                    IMAX in a Shoebox!!

Hello John

Did you test a Genos with these DXR speakers ?

Hi Soundphase
Sorry for late reply
I have eventually set up the Genos and the DXR8's and I have got to say that these speakers are class
The wattage looks over the top ,but you also have an advantage if you need to play out at a small venue or a party
I am mainly studio and want to write some of my own music. I also have monitors for mixing.
Having top amplifiers inside the quality at low volume is astounding once set up right.
They do each have a fan ,but they are super quite. A computer makes more noise.
I did have some mains hum with these speakers, but a £19 Behringer hum destroyer put paid to that. Plug In Instrument jack mono cables one side and speaker jack cables out to the DXR 8's pre- amp. NO hum!! :)

I have had my computer go to the wall and had to have another built  which cost me £1700,but it is a monster built by PC Specialists uk. They are quick and efficient.
so down to work loading all In again and Cakewalk announce that Sonar Platinum has gone to the wall as Gibson has stopped It.
So, eventually I decdided to take the Cubase crossover which I can now recommend after getting my head around the basics
I have a fresh start now with everything and can start making some music.

All the best
John

Hi,

I have DBR 12 model. When I bought them I thoroughly compared with QSC and DXR models. I did not go for QSC and DXR because they are high in price. DBR model is the older model but most of the speaker components same apart from power. I did not go for 8" as if you want to get rid of sub woofer 12" will be better option. But sub always fill the room for low frequencies.

Sound quality produced almost same on DBR and DXR.

Thanks

Mark

Thank you for your reply. How do you switch from dxr to monitors ? Manually or do you have a mixer that allows you to plug 4 speakers ? I'm a novice in sound systems.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Soundphase
I just have my monitors plugged into the board.
If I come off the Dxrs I just change the leads over at the keyboard .
I have one set pulled out of my Genos and lay on the  the table at back and the other plugged in.
Just swap over when needed
Do the mixing In Cubase on computer, either keyboard onboard sounds or VST and finalize using Lurssen master tool or Ik Multimedia mastering tool.
Try the mix on Hi- FI and car and if ok that's It.

Sorry for my late answer. Thank you very much for the answer.

And sorry (again) if I don't understand all, but do you confirm your computer is not connected, nor to your DXr nor to your monitors ?

I use a Yamaha mixer to mix Genos and PC sounds into my monitors, and my mixer doesn't allow me to use professional monitors and high-level speakers simultaneously.
