Thomas has just release the 2.3.0 update for StyleMagic.  I have been working with this style editor / remixer for more than a year now.  There are many small improvements But the biggest new feature is the Voice Editor.

•   Multieditor - improved scrolling of playback
•   Multieditor - added the ability to move PianoRoll window using the left mouse button
•   Multieditor - added legato in the editor Gate Time
•   Multieditor - added Auto Zoom, which dependent of PPQN value.
•   Multieditor - added the auto adjust the keyboard to notes on the channel
•   Main window - improved display of events Chord Name
•   Main window - added remember the last tab
•   Main window - added ability to remove Poliphonic aftertouch and channel aftertouch in Validation SMF/SFF
•   Player - fixed an issue with a jump to distant places in file on slower computers
•   Player - enriched playback control
•   CASM Editor - fixed bugs the Copy-Paste and Set Default
•   Mixing console - expanded the Voice Selection window

In the Voice Editor you can now edit Amplitude Envelopes, Filters and LFO parameters  for each Style Part in each style Section.  This allows you to tune Voices to play a style Part that normally won't play correctly.

Other editing in the Voice Editor includes, editing of notes, individual note Velocity, Velocity Range can be expanded or compressed.

The Multieditor is where you can do some serious note and controller editing and re-arranging of style parts. Copy any style Part to any other Style Part, in-depth Note Editing, cut or copy all channels) of a style.  Controller data can be added, deleted, and moved.  The value-range of Filter and Expression sweeps can be expanded or compressed.

The Channels Manager lets you copy, move, delete, merge and split selectable channel data.

The Sections Manager allows you to rearrange, Save and Load entire Sections from different styles.

One thing I'm still waiting for is the Drum Kit Editor.  This can only be implemented globally for all Style Sections, but will be a very powerful feature for "tuning" individual drum sounds.

The Demo of v2.3 should be available soon from www.midisoft.pl/en/

This is an all around excellent Style Editor that I use to both edit styles and create my own custom styles.  With a total of 15 or 16 editing screens, there is much more to this program than meets the eye.

I highly recommend this program for anyone who wants to make fine-tuned edits to their styles or create their own custom styles.

I thought I would post a few more screenshots.  StyleMagic offers the most editing capabilities of any dedicated style-maker, style editor software.  Many functions are drag & drop, or just a click of the mouse.     ;)       A very easy to use ... "user friendly" program.   The CASM Editor is especially 8)

This one can edit SFF2 styles? Cool!

Alvin

Hi Alvin,

Yes, SFF2 CASM is supported. You can convert SFF1 to SFF2, or SFF2 to SFF1.  I like the graphic representation of the CASM Editor.  It helps me to understand the CASM parameters a little better.

The thing about ALL Style-Maker software is that none of them can play the style as you hear it on the keyboard, because... The keyboard OS has the software code to "interpret" the CASM settings.

After you work in an editor like this for awhile, you can at least get a "sense" of how things will sound when played on the keyboard.   Styles will play in their CMaj7 and CMin7 scales.  But it's still better than editing on the keyboard in Style Creator.

Hi, Joe.

That's great! I never created styles on my keyboard after I came across the CASM Editor. But it can only edit SFF1 format.
With this, making SFF2 format styles could be very handy. I'll try this after I get a S670.
Thanks for recommending.
BTW, I think the best way to understand the parameters is to try them all on the keyboard. Also, analysing the built-in styles on the keyboard is also a good way since all of them are created by yamaha's professional musicians.

Alvinc,

English is a second language for Thomas, so I re-wrote a document he produced explaining Yamaha's style file format, to make things a little more understandable.  I made an effort to not change his meaning, I just wanted to cleaned-up the English translation a bit.  I also added a couple of screen shots where it was helpful. It is attached.

Jørgen

Hi

Just an update to the document...

"SFF GE – (Style File Format Guitar Edition, called also SFF2) is a newer format, with
support for styles that use the Mega Voice..."

SFF can use Mega Voices too; e.g. Tyros 1, Tyros 2, and PSR 3000

Jorgen,

Thanks for pointed that fact out.  I didn't write the document, I just cleaned-up the English the best I could.  I believe you have a similar document that offers more detail on CASM settings.  Would you post a link to your document?  Everything we can get on CASM settings is a big help.

Thanks,
Joe H

Hi
Joe

A genius, no... but hard working...

As Edison said: "1 % inspiration, 99 % transpiration".

I cracked the original CASM format more than 15 years ago. And this was hard work... More: http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/about.htm#casm

I am a little behind with so many things after I held a wonderful holiday last week in England. Hopefully I can find a few hours this weekend for looking deeper.

Hi Joe,
I purchased stylemagic this past weekend. I think its version 3.0
My Keyboard is PSR s970. Have pointed to the PSR970 instrument definition file.
However the screens that my version of the software present seem to be a bit different.
In the screens shots that you have posted, there appear to be some more functions in the section manager. (Tool or task bar), As regards the channels manager I do spot a few differences. I checked the help file. The screen shots in the help file mirror the screens you had posted. But the software I'm using shows some differences.
If I open a midi file using the version of stylemagic I purchased, should I be able to drag and drop channels ? At least that is what I saw in the youtube video. In my version of the software I'm not able to change channels in channels manager.
I did post queries to support. Haven't heard back.
Starting with a midi file, How does one create a style file ? I did come across a video in youtube, its in a language that I'm not able to follow.
Would appreciate some help/advice.
Thanks
Sandeep

Sandeep,

I just checked the midisoft website. I think you may have MidiWorks and StyleMagic confused.

MidiWorks is v3.01G which has support for Genos.  It has the new flat look. The latest version of StyleMagic is 2.3.6 which still has the same the look as above.

I expect a new release of StyleMagic coming this year.  We get automatic updates for free. It will have the same look as MidiWorks.

Hi Joe, Thanks for the quick response.

On the order form I had requested for StyleMagic YA & paid $59

I'm looking at the email I received from midisoft.
--------------------
"Thank you for payment, here's a link to the StyleMagic YA full version: <there is a link to download the zip file> followed by instructions on keeping the USB dongle connected,
Choose instrument def file
Updates are free..
and so on...
-------------------
The screen shots that you had shared and the screen shots that appear in the help file are similar. The screens  that my software presents are close, but not identical. They do indicate a few lesser interaction elements.  Plus I'm unable to work with a midi file to rearrange channels.

Later today I'll post some screen shots form my PC.

Thanks - Sandeep

I received responses to my queries from Midisoft support.
I have the correct software and version. I guess it's the latest cut.
Icons on task bar have been updated hence it appeared a bit different.
I figured out the issue on drag and drop of channels in channel manager. It's a small region in the panels that respond to drag operation. I was trying to drag the middle area of the channel panel. It's the lower area of the channel panel which responds to drag n drop.
Thanks for your support and looking into the issue.
I will need to explore the software...

Joe H

Strange,  I have not received an update yet and Thomas' website shows the latest StyleMagic version to be 2.3.6
