Two questions:
Can the YRM convert registrations from a GENOS 2 to the former Genos generation?

Second question: can the YRM run on a MAC?
  •

Fred Smith

YRM works on Windows only.

It can convert G2 to G1 as long as you have the latest version.

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, @Theo Martens!

As already stated by Fred, Murray Best's Yamaha Registration Manager (YRM) is currently not available for Mac. To operate the Windows version of the YRM on a Mac, you could use a Virtual Machine (e.g. "VirtualBox" or "Parallels Desktop" app) on which Windows is installed, or use "Boot Camp" (with which you can install Windows natively on a Mac).

The current YRM version 5.4 also supports Genos2. To get this version, however, you have to contact Murray Best directly by email. Install, if not yet done, please first at least YRM V5.1.1:
>>> Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

For the update to V5.4, copy the update files received from Murray Best to the YRM program folder ("C:\Program Files (X86)\MBestSoft\RegManager5") and thus overwrite the previous files of the same name.

By the way, for Murray Best's email address click on the "About" button in the YRM main window.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, @飞云乐器 (Feiyun Musical Instruments)!

Please note: As you can easily see, this is an English-speaking forum. Therefore, please only post in English here. You can, for example, use an online translation tool such as Google Translator to translate your Chinese text into English. Then copy the translated text into your post here.

Regarding your request:
Murray Best, the developer of the Yamaha Registration Manager (YRM), obviously does not want the current version of his program to be publicly linked for download, neither on the PSR Tutorial main site nor here in the forum.

As I wrote above, please send a request by email (in English language) directly to Murray Best to receive YRM update V5.4. I do not mean a PM (private message) here in the forum, but a normal email, e.g. via your email provider Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

To get Murray Best's email address, please click on the HELP button in the currently installed YRM version.

If you have not yet installed the YRM program, download V5.1.1 from the following link and install it on your (Windows) computer. In any case, you must have an earlier version installed (e.g. V5.1, V5.11, V5.2 or V5.3), because the update for V5.4 only contains the changed files, i.e. not the complete program.

I was just wondering, is there a repository for existing registrations anywhere that is available? Does not need to be free, purchase is ok :)

Yamaha's playlists contain hundreds of registrations specifically for each keyboard.

For example, for Genos2 here: https://forum.psrtutorial.com/index.php/topic,67771.0.html

Thanks, yes I have that one, but there are many MANY files on it I will never play....I was hoping there may be a commercial site that creates registrations for current music?

Best regards,

I sent an email this morning - thanks heaps for that link.

From replies I have received so far, it seems registrations are the way to operate the G2, so having a good editor will be a big help!

Have you ever seen a video of a Genos demonstration at a large retailer? When the camera pans into the audience, you briefly see what I think is the most important target group: solvent retired men with grey hair. I don't mean that in a bad way, but the interest in current music is rather low among this target group.

Hi Kurt,
the presentations may seem like the population is old. Judging by the traffic to my channel, where I exclusively describe Yamaha arrangers, it doesn't seem like that. About 65% of the visitors are under 54.

Well - I think these social media statistics are questionable. Without further information, e.g. confidence intervals, the values given are actually worthless. It also seems unlikely to me that from the age of 25 onwards the viewers are nearly evenly distributed. And if I wanted to, I could also read from the data that almost nobody watches your videos for longer than 2 minutes - which is certainly not true. And it is also very questionable whether your audience has the same age structure as the buyer group.

These statistics are made for advertisers who have never attended a statistics lecture. And advertisers don't spend money on people over 49 because they are hardly influenced by advertising. At least that's what they were told.

Thanks

My hair is turning grey now, yes (as you can see in my videos) but I've been interested in arrangers since before I was a teen!

Yes, a couple of weeks ago I got the update for the SX720/920.
I emailed Murray, using the address in the About menu item from the YRM version I had installed. I heard back from him very quickly and the update worked fine.
Registrations are pretty new to me so I'm only learning how the program works, but I'm glad to have it.

So the update is only for G2 owners?  If  it's an update for all, what's changed? Just curious.
Also,
I have a fear of messing with my current registrations, that somehow using an external Registration manager may break the link with styles, or any changes made could corrupt current registration files. I would like to make some changes, but to be on the safe side, is there a way to backup current registration files from the keyboard to...wherever?

Copy them onto a USB drive and then copy them into a folder on your computer. You can work on the USB files and the files on the computer will be safe. If something goes wrong when making changes to the USB files you can copy the computer files onto the USB again, start over.

It's new to me, but that's how I plan to do it.

@LaHawk
Wolfgang T has several tutorials for using YRM on YouTube, I was watching the 2nd one when I saw your post. It's here if you have any interest in them. It's not in English and the captions don't translate too well, but I figured I might learn something before I try it on my files.
