Hi all --

I'm happy to announce version 2 of my DJX-II styles for Yamaha Genos, Tyros and PSR arrangers.

These PSR DJ styles are converted from the original Yamaha DJX-II patterns. If you would like to know more about the conversion process, please see:

These are DJ styles, so they only respond to changes in the root note. The chord progressions are cooked into the patterns (just like intros and endings in regular PSR styles). I tried to find the best mapping from DJX-II patterns to style sections. Therefore, some of the DJX-II styles have auto-fill, some do not. Longer "fill" patterns are assigned to the intro and ending sections which can play more than one measure.

Feel free to edit, rearrange and customize the styles in order to make them your own. I recommend Jørgen Sørensen's excellent tools.  Jørgen's site also has documentation and tutorials about styles and style creation to help you along.

You can find the ZIP file at:

Version 2 includes all of the files in the first collection. Version 2 adds Drum'n'Bass, Disco, House and Trip Hop styles. The ZIP file includes a README.TXT file which should help you get started with the styles. I have also included PDF notation files for people who read music and want to know about the chord progressions, bass lines, and so forth.

Enjoy! The DJX-II style collection is free.

Is there anything like this for the original blue DJX?

Hi --

Sadly, no.

Yamaha made the DJX-II factory patterns available as MIDI files. (The DJX-II can load external patterns.) That was my starting point for conversion.

Someone would need to record the original DJX (PSR-D1) patterns to MIDI files. That assumes having a DJX and having the gumption to do the conversion.

I agree -- there's some good stuff in there. Wish I had the patterns as MIDI files ...

All the best -- pj

I Just read your post on DJX-II styles and noticed a query that asked about the blue DJX styles.  I am currently working on using my old DJX as an external instrument in Logic Pro.  Recording the styles and playing back works perfectly, but archiving seems to elude me.  That is, when I export a region from Logic as a midi file so I can use it in another project, it will not open on a software instrument track.  Instead it opens up 8 tracks, attempting to match the voices with those in the Logic Library.  This means that the sounds are lost and the external instrument track of the new project is useless.  So I have two questions: 1. any ideas on how to get Logic to accept all 8 midi lines in the software instrument track that made them?  and 2. what could I do to help others who would like to access the sounds /styles of the blue DJX?
