How to send Harmony via Midi

Dear friends (including Chrispedia!!!),

I play an Hammond-Suzuki XM2 expander with excellent Hammond sounds and a very realistic Leslie emulation, both far better than Genos organs and Rotary effects. I also have the XM2c unit that provides hard drawbars that may be used in real time and various instant controls (Presets, Vibrato and Chorus, Percussions, Overdrive, Reverb, ecc).

I love this gear for its superb quality (to bad it's no longer produced) and the minimum space it requires. It is a pleasure to play it together with Genos accompaniment and sounds (I splitted the Hammond in Upper and Lower manuals, therefore I may also use the left hand organ pad).

But I have problem that I have not been able to solve, possibly for my lack of knowledge about Midi. When I press on Genos the Harmony button (Right Voices) the effect doesn't affect the upper manual Hammond sound, that remains with one note only.

I'm sure that there must be a way, because when I had Korg Pa3X its Harmony command would harmonize the Hammond (upper manual) also without problems.

I hope that some of you could help me to make it work. For this purpose I enclose the Hammond User Manual (with detailed info about Midi), that can be downloaded from this link:

Please note that the Genos Midi template I'm using is (don't know why...) Master Kbd2.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Ciao,

Angelo

Trying and retrying I Finally I got it!

Now works: in Midi menu/Transmit/Part: Right1/Channel: Port1 Ch1;  2nd page: unflag Program change option (otherwise Genos would change the Hammond presets).
Of course for having the Hammond sounds only (without Genos Voices) I must have Right1 On with Volume 0. This way I play with Hammond sounds (upper and lower manuals) and with Genos beautiful accompaniment.
With these settings, when I press the Harmony button on the panel, I get the Harmony on the Hammond Voices. Perfect.

....but another issue:
I saved in a Registration, but any time I turn Genos On, and recall that registration, those Midi settings are lost.

I tried to SAVE those setting within the Midi menu (I would like to have them in a Midi User memory). But after I press SAVE shows the 10 factory Midi presets, and the Save button is gray. If I go to the User Tab, nothing is in there, and the Save button is gray.

Checked in the Reference Manual, no success...

Could anyone please help?

Thank you

Hi Angelo,

Could it be that you haven't installed the current Genos1 firmware (V2.13) yet? If so, I recommend installing this version first.

I remember that in a previous version there was a problem with saving MIDI templates ("Save" icon was grayed out). But you could still save by using the "File" icon.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Dear Chris,

I'll check according to your indication and try again. Then I'll let you know.

Thank you so much in any case for your kind attention.

Dear Chris,

after a complete saving (copy) of all my files (Registrations, Styles, Voices, Midi+Audio Songs) and a full Backup, I loaded Firmware 2.13, as for your kind suggestion, and Genos seems to work perfectly. All my files are there; no need for reloading, nothing missing, including Expansion Packs contents. Very good!

Saving Midi Settings works fine now, without any problem, as you anticipated: no more gray icons. I was able to save my settings in a Midi User location. And the Voice Harmony transmit setting is saved in my patch.

Once more YOU are a great problem solver, and I thank you so much for that. In the mean time, thank to your advise, now I have the latest Firmware.

While searching for posts related to upgrading to 2.13 Firmware, to refresh my memory, I found a post of you saying that the YEM target device should updated too. I'll do that.

Spaghetti alla Carbonara are waiting for you here in Roma!

Thank you for your detailed feedback, Angelo! I'm glad I could help you.

And thank you very much for your offer of Spaghetti alla Carbonara. :)

Unfortunately I won't be coming to Rome any time soon...
