Older Registration Files

Greetings friends,

Along with the many older styles I'm finding and sharing here, I have also found a lot of registration files.  I don't normally use them but have felt out place lately not knowing that much about them. Earlier tonight I was playing with several registrations in a folder dated 2015. They played and sounded remarkably well. I wanted to see which piano was chosen in the OTS I was hearing. It sounded "too" good for a 2015 file. Low and behold my favorite piano voice, that character grand on Genos2 was playing. I know these files have been sitting around collecting dust for years. Where is Genos2 getting its instruction to play that character grand?

The styles in those registrations are very good too. If a registration was made using a style from an older keyboard, and my Genos2 doesn't have that original style, how does it handle that?  Are the original styles stored in the registration?  And if they are, can they be edited either before or after being stored in the registration file?   I hope I'm explaining things correctly. Thanks.  -charley

Would it be something like the registration carries the voice reference number (000-123-001) and in the event of that voice not being available, defaults to the nearest number up (or down) ?  I can't see it being able to choose by actual sound - be a load of coding for a situation with so many variables.

Hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about will be along with the right explanation 😉

If a registration is asking for a preset (voice or style) it doesn't have, the keyboard will substitute its closest equivalent.

The keyboard will do this by class. For example, it has a substitute piano (in your case the character grand) for any piano voice it can't find.
