Preset chord loop banks on Genos2

Hi,

From the video demos, I noticed that there are many chord loop banks built-in the Genos2 presets. I have a PSR-SX900 with only 3, mostly unusable, preset loop banks (I do not know about the Genos V2.0 situation in that respect).

My question is: Is there a way I could get those Genos2 preset loop bank files (e.g. from a "save here" copying process) ? I know hat there might be some copyright issues, unless these are all 'generic' loops (e.g. 12 bar blues), and surely, for the same reasons, they are probably not the perfect loops for a known - and protected - song, but I would like to give them a go.

Yes, I can record loops on the SX900, it's just that my left hand is not that trustable, even at low tempo, when it comes to 7th, 6th, 6/9 or diminished ... I keep looking for a piece of software to create/edit such loops as well, but did not have much success yet. I do hope, though, that now with dedicated buttons on the Genos2, Chord loops will gain popularity and maybe there will be free and commercial loop banks trade, just as with midi files or styles and registrations !

Thanks,

Thierry

Now that would be interesting. They are just files. So if there are preset banks on G2, they should be easy to copy over to SX and G1 models. Anybody want to offer them ..?

Is the "Chord Loop" feature actually needed?

With Yamaha giving us the "Midi to Style" program, we can now create the "loop" and stick it in any of the MAINs or one of the INTROs in the style now.

I just do not see the need for chord looper ,only if you have one hand maybe.

The chord looper plays the chords you program, using the current style. The point of it is to control the chord progression without having to use your left hand to change them. It can be helpful when you're trying to learn the right hand part of a song, or for example in EDM style where you want to be able to control cutoff, resonance, style retrigger etc and need a free hand.

Yes, you could do this in a style intro, because it can hold a chord progression. But you would have to keep retriggering it. It would not work on a main variation, which cannot hold a chord progression.

Chord Looper can be used for many things. Composers might use it record a set of chords. They can then play two handed across the keyboard to build it up.
Beginners who find on certain songs the middle eight chords are to tricky for them can find a slow style that lets them play the chords in comfort. once you have recorded your sequence you can then use any style with your set as Chord looper only contains information on what notes are being played and dose not record any sounds or style parts. These you can add yourself while playing back the loop such as fills and variations. You can try out several styles to see which one will suit your song best.
Quite a clever little thing really.

I am looking forward to the chord looper for one song in particular: Don't Sleep in the Subway.
There is quite an awkward chord sequence in the middle and I am really hoping that this will help.

Not sure that I need it for anything else, but I can see potential when playing in difficult keys.
Really looking forward to mine when it gets here ....before Christmas, but not overly fussed.

Hi Andy,
Mine arrives tomorrow. I am sure you will find chord looper handy

I have used the chord looper a lot. It's really helpful for complicated progressions. But when I am just playing for fun I prefer not to use it, because it locks me in to a predetermined chord sequence.

I find Chord Looper useful when I want to preview different styles for a particular song, just leave a loop of a verse or chorus running and flick through maybe dozens of styles...

For me the chord looper is an important tool.
When I perform a song, I start out playing the left hand progression by myself.
Then, when it comes to the guitar solo I turn on the chord looper to free my left hand to use the joystick, so I can emulate bending the strings more effectively.
After the Solo I play again myself.
Perfect for my needs

I explained in my original post that my left hand is not that good (and all muscle memory, once dedicated to guitar neck, is now gone): I think I qualify to use chord looper. Is it too much to ask for a few files and use a built-in (and paid for) feature without being mocked ? Don't you think I would prefer playing these chords ?

Still hoping to get these loop bank files - or a good piece of software to create them easily.

Hi Thierry --

Chord Looper is a handy tool. Maybe a few folks feel otherwise, but what the heck.

We had a discussion about using MIDI Step Edit to create Chord Looper files:
https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,63541.msg483757.html#msg483757

Might be other related messages, too. With a little sleight of hand, you can step edit complicated chord sequences and get them into Chord Looper.

Well, I'm willing to be mocked.  :) I step entered chords for the Coltrane changes (Giant Steps) because my left hand had trouble triggering the more complicated chord shapes.

Hope this helps -- pj

Always grateful for tips - thanks very much!
