MIDI to Style import a factory style?

When I open a factory style in the MIDI to Style utility, it pretty much throws up and creates nonsense.

Seems like the MIDI to Style tool should detect the SFF2/SInt markers at the beginning of the style file and look for a pre-existing CASM. It should retain the section markers, role assignments (Rhy1, etc.), and any NTR/NTT definitions. In other words, open the danged style.

I've got some converted styles that I'd like to distribute as both STY and MIDI to Style projects. If I have to re-edit everything in MIDI to Style, forget it!

Am I missing some option? Best practices?

Thanks -- pj

hi pj,
I think you have pretty much figured out: it's a tool that helps converting midi song-->style (not a style editor)  :)

Hi PJ, in Midi Song to Style from yamaha software, you can have a style from Genos 2 styles in .mid extension but voices of genos 2 are always in the new style created; so it's not wath i want; all the best Patrick

This probably will be in an update (I will bet it wont). But right now it seems even if you add Markers to midi file it wont be read by application. It reads only midi events/notes and creates by itself the markers following some rules. So, yes, it is not a style editor it is a midi to style creation. And more than that is only a simple style which will create. No chord variation, so you cannot make for example the Bass track to play some measures from a channel for Major chords and the same measures from other channel for minor7th chords. So, ya, it is still an elementary style creator, like keyboard embeded.

But, still so, it represents something  ;D Probably it was easier for them to create a software for computer than integrate it in keyboard.

Regards,
Vali

Thanks, folks! I was worried that I missed something basic or simply my incompetence.  :)

The tool has some benefit as a style viewer since I document channels, voices and levels.

If I start a style from an SMF containing patterns, it's probably better than going at it with SONAR.

There's a few Genos2 styles that I really like and will be converting.

Thanks, again — pj
