Hi,
I have a s style in user area and I need to edit the Break in MixMaster and play it back on my keyboard.
The Break is time signature 4/4 and one measure.
I want to delete the beats 1 and 2, keep the beats 3 and 4, and also change the time signature to 2/4.
I did successfully all editing in MixMaster.

When I play it back in my keyboard (in Style mode) the Break is not playing, the lights is blue (means there is data) but I can not hear anything.
Strange thing is when I go to Style Creator and test the Break, it plays back fine and correctly as I edited.
I even saved it under another name but no result, the same problem.

Has anyone encountered this kind of problem?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well,

I only edit styles using the keyboard itself, never used a software.
Why don't you try to remove the beats 1/2 in the style creator?

Changing time signature, I don't know if you can do it only in a section. However, you can activate the HALF BAR fill-in, and the fill-ins (including breaks) will be only half (2/4).

Maybe, maybe, only using the HALF BAR fill-in will solve your problem at all.

Pedro

Thanks Pedro for your reply.

I did first in Style Creator but unfortunately it removes the beat 3 and 4 (which I need to keep) and leave me with beat 1&2 which I don't need
and at the end It keeps the time signature 4/4 which I don't want. So that didn't solve my issue.

Could you explain please how can I activate the HALF BAR fill-in?

Thanks

Hello,

Well, I have a Genos, but it can be the same in other similar yamaha keyboards (don't have sure)
To turn on HALF BAR FILL-IN, one way is to go to assignable buttons menu and choose one of the assignable buttons to STYLE > HALF BAR FILL-IN, so you can press the button to turn on and off this feature. You may also press "direct access" and press one assignable button to reach the menu.

Taka a look how I use it at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECRVFyTivA4

At 1:18 I turn on the HALF BAR FILL-IN
At 1:41 I press the "Fill in A" in the beggining of the bar and it ends in 2/4.
At 1:49 I turn off the HALF BAR FILL-IN

Thanks Perdro for this workaround, I found the 1/2 bar Fill-in and it worked fine for my Break.
It did bypass the beat 1 and 2 and kept the beat 3&4 as I wanted.

As a temporary solution, this is ok but I will need to solve this problem and save it permanently as 2/4.
With bunch of styles that I have to use in live performances I will for sure forget.
But thanks anyway, really appreciated.

Hi,

Sorry to bring back this topic, I am still struggling with this Break editing.
I spent many hours between MixMaster and my keyboard to edit my Break with no luck so far.
I get exactly the same result as my first post, not resolved.

So I was wondering if there are other options or software that I can use to edit my Break.
I have StyleMagic but unfortunately I didn't find any feature for what I want to do.
I wanted to edit my Break in my DAW (Cubase Pro 10.5 ) via MixMaster (Go to...), but unfortunately my Cuabse is in Mac platform and MixMaster in Windows 10, so no compatibility between two software.

The Break is 4/4, one measure.
I want to delete the beats 1 and 2, keep only the beats 3 and 4, and change the time signature to 2/4.

Thank you for any suggestion.

I think it won't work to make the break 2/4.

A solution perhaps is :
Remove the beats 1 and 2 in the Break.
Move the Beats 3 and 4 to the beginning of the break (2 beats earlier).
Make the notes in the beats double in length.
Change the tempo for the break to 2x the normal tempo of the style.
Don't forget to set the tempo again to normal in the section that follows the break (if break is not the last section in the style data).

Just a thought of me ... you could try it.

If plan A doesn't work, don't forget that the alphabet has 25 more letters.

Thank you Etienne for your fast reply.
Is it possible to do your suggestion in MixMaster?

Best regards

Hi Etienne,

It worked perfectly, and I could change the time signature from 4/4 to 2/4 successfully for the Break section.
Thank you.

I tested on my keyboard, it plays back correctly the Break in 2/4 and shown 2/4 TS also in the display.
All done in MixMaster.

PS:
I did all steps, except bypassing the doubling beats in length and changing the tempo for the Break, I didn't do those steps.
At the end I inserted a 2/4 Time Signature for the Break section only.
Saved the style and tested in the keyboard.
It works perfectly.

Best regards
