Is it possible to overwrite a style or voice from its default and lose it?

My PSR SX900 is my first arranger keyboard and I'm further exploring its capabilities (and loving it!).

As I've started adjusting a style settings or voice settings (including OTS), I want to know if I need to worry about changing things beyond recognition.  For example, to learn what some of the settings actually do, I set them at an extreme and then the other extreme.  But then I don't remember where the default was.  In some places I can hold down the setting and it returns to another level (I'm guessing the default).  But sometimes it doesn't do that, and I don't know how to get back to default.

Sometimes when I move away, it asks me if I want to save, sometimes it seems to let me just move away.  If it asks me if I want to save, I think by definition I'm then going to be saving in the User area or on a USB and will not be overwriting the style or voice that came with the keyboard?  Is that right?  I believe I can never overwrite a style or voice or OTS that is a default of the keyboard, right?  That gives me some comfort, but how about the flip side - if my messing around actually does get saved, when I don't want it to.  Say I play around with a style, don't save it, move away, and come back, will it be back to the default settings, or have my adjusted settings?

I'm trying to avoid doing a full reset because I did that once and I lost a bunch of assignable button settings, and pedals etc (not that big a deal to redo, but still want to avoid).

How about with a registration?  If I've made a registration myself, or brought in a registration, those are not a default of the keyboard.  So if I change it, the keyboard asks if I want to save, and then will let me overwrite.  So I think if I'm not careful, I could lose my original registration settings?

Many thanks in advance.

You cannot overwrite any preset (style or voice).

As there are no preset registrations, you can overwrite them, just like you can with songs.

Thank you.  Does that mean that I can fiddle with a style to my hearts content, if I move to a different style, when I go back to the one that I was fiddling with, it will all be back to the defaults?  And same thing with the OTS within a style and the voices?  Much appreciated!

"Default" is a poor description of a preset, but the answer is yes.

Thanks again.

Why is default a poor description?  I would have that meant the same thing as default.   I'm not at all trying to get into a grammar or dictionary thing - I'm just trying to learn from all the knowledge and experience on here. Thanks

I know what you mean by default here. And yes, you can fiddle with the settings of the style to your hearts content. If you do not save when  done, all is lost. If you save, you get a style in the user section that contains your changes. Do not be afraid to experiment with this, it is fun!

If you save a style, best is to change its name for instance by adding your first name in the style name. This will avoid confusion later on.

If you run the default style through the onboard Style Creator program, you can save it as a custom style, then rename it to anything you wish. I recommend renaming the style to the song title - works for me!

Good luck,
