Questions about Tyros styles

Hello,

I have some questions about some styles in my Tyros5.

1: At some point, I heard a midi-file of the song "Sweet Home Alabama", made on a Tyros1. I am quite sure that this midi-file used a style, which worked perfectly with Sweet Home Alabama, with the correct intro from the song and all. However, I can't seem to find that style in my Tyros5. So, do anyone know what that style is called, and if it is in Tyros5?

2: I've noticed, that many of the styles in Tyros5 seem to be made to work with a specific song, sutch as the style 60s Rising Pop is made for House Of The Rising Sun, and Rock&Roll1 is made for Johnny B. Goode. So, is it possible to somewhere find a list of which style is made for which song?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards:
Aksel Christoffersen

Hi Aksel,

1) I don't think that Tyros1 - 5 contain such a song related Style for "Sweet Home Alabama". Most likely the Style you heard was either a user-programmed Style or a commercial third-party Style, as offered by the German company DOO:
>>> https://www.d-o-o.de/article.php?songid=413&&lang=en

But you can also find many free song-related Styles on the Internet. Try this one:
>>> SweetHomeAlabama.STY

(The link points directly to the STY file. If your browser opens the file directly when you click the link and displays it as TEXT, please click the link with the LEFT mouse button (Ctrl+click on Mac) and select "Save as" or similar.)

2) I am not aware of any such list showing which song titles certain Preset Styles were originally made for.

You could, however, work with the Music Finder: If you have not already done so, please download the original Tyros5 Music Finder file.
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/updates/61011_en.html

Unzip the zip file and install the included .mfd file either directly on the Tyros5 or open it in one of the PC programs "MusicFinderView" or "Music Finder File Manager":
>>> https://psrtutorial.com/MB/musicfinderview.html
>>> http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/mffm/index.htm

You can sort each either by song title ("Music") or by Style to find out which Style is suitable for which song title.

Note: If you install the .mfd directly on your Tyros5, please remember to SAVE your current Music Finder status as a file beforehand!

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for all the information. As it happens, I'm blind and can't therefore operate the musicfinder on the Tyros5, so I think I'll try it with one of the applications.

The reason why I think the Sweet Home Alabama I'm searching for is a style is, that I once bought it as a midi-file for Tyros1 from the danish midishop called midispot.com. They mostly make their own midifiles, but this one stated that is was made by Yamaha. Here is a link to the audio demo on midispot.com:
https://www.midispot.com/audio/109/midifiles/Sweet_Home_Alabama_XT.mp3

Later, I found a YouTube video of the same song played on Tyros1. It sounded very similar, but not completely identical. The drum breaks were a little different, like different breaks in a style, and the key was C insteat of D. Here is a link to the video:

Then, I just assumed it was a style build into Tyros1, because the same channel has a video of Johnny B. Goode with the Rock&Roll1 style, which is in Tyros. Also, it can't be a style that Midispot made, because this particular midifile was made by Yamaha, and they also have a midifile of the song, that they made themselves, which sounds completely different, more true to the original song.

Edit: Also, I know D-O-O, and their midifiles and styles are OK, but MidiSpot is better in my upinion. Just listen to their own version of Sweet Home Alabama, compaired to the version from D-O-O.

Thanks for your detailed feedback, Aksel!

I watched the video "Sweet Home Alabama - Tyros 1" on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMovNzar0_o). The player ("RonsonDenmark") obviously doesn't know exactly where this Style comes from, because in the comment area of the video he said (13 years ago) "A custom style from d-o-o.de or more likely downloadshop.yamaha.de". Then 12 years ago he said "You can buy it from downloadshop.yamaha.de or d-o-o.de" ...

Unfortunately, the German Yamaha download shop is no longer available, and the new Yamaha MusicSoft shop (shop.usa.yamaha.com) currently only has very few style files.

However, you can download a zip file from the following link that contains 7 Styles for "Sweet Home Alabama". The first two of these Styles (with "X9" in the name) appear to be the versions originally available from Yamaha.de and d-o-o.

Have fun!

That makes sens. As the midifile that sounds like the style was created by Yamaha, it makes sens that the style was downloadable from Yamaha. Thanks for the Dropbox-link, but I can't open it. It just says something about the site isn't safe to visit, and I can't continue from there. I'll try again later, but right now, it doesn't work.

Edit: Problem resolved. It was just a program on my computer blocking my connection to Dropbox.

Update: Thanks for the styles. The one called alabama6.mid was the one I was looking for. All the other just sounds like modified versions of the style from D-O-O, which I personally don't like very much.

Thanks for your feedback again, Aksel!

I am pleased that the download from Dropbox has now worked and that there was a suitable style for you. :)

Hey - I have the style I (must have) used in the video if you want it.
Its made by Yamaha for sure, the lyrics file says 'YAMAHA Music Central Europe GmbH'.
