Hello,
as part of my workflow I am used to recording and playing audio on my computer. I have asked myself what would be the best way to connect Genos to my audio interface. I have come up with the following setup:
• MIC alone on SUB Output 1+2 => Inputs 1+2 on audio interface
• All the rest on SUB Output 3+4, except MIC and AUX-IN => Inputs 3+4 on audio interface
• Stereo output of audio interface => Input AUX-IN on Genos

On Genos the AUX-IN is forwarded to the MAIN output: this prevents to use the MAIN output to feed the audio interface because the sound coming from the computer would be sent back again, creating a loop. That is the reason behind using only SUB Outputs above.
But this has a drawback according to the Reference Manual page 152: ,,Only the Insertion Effect and Vocal Harmony effects can be applied to the sound output from the SUB jacks. The System Effect (Chorus, Reverb) will not be applied".  And according to the block diagram page 124 the Master effects cannot be applied either.
Does anyone has a better solution? How do you connect your audio interface to Genos for audio recording and playback?

Have a nice day,
Darius

Hello,
I just came across this old post.

I am also trying to route audio with the Yamaha Genos, and I find the manual so useless...

What i am trying to do is to use the Maschine MK3 as a looper, I wanted to route the Right 3 output to the Maschine to be able to loop... Also the MIC would be a good thing to be routed but I cannot figure out how to do this...

Hi pietropavan,

when you find "the" manual "so useless", then you probably haven't downloaded (or looked into) the Reference Manual yet. ;)

I recommend downloading all manuals from the Genos Download page (at least "Owner's Manual", "Reference Manual" and "Data List"):
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/genos/downloads.html#product-tabs

Information about "Selecting the Output Destination of Each Sound (Line Out)" you can find on page 163 of the Genos Reference Manual. (Please read also the information about the Sub Outs on pages 108/109 of the Genos Owners Manual.)

Ideally, you use the Sub Outs in stereo, i.e. two Sub Outs per Part, for example as follows:

• I recommend to save your original (unchanged) Line Out setting to a Registration first. (Tick at least the "Line Out" checkbox in the Memory dialog).

• Call up the Line Out display via [Menu] > [Line Out].

• Make sure the switch at the top right is in the "Sub3/4" position (not in the "AUX" position).

• In the tab "Panel" set e.g. the Part "Right3" to Sub1 & Sub2 and the Part "Mic" to Sub3 & Sub4.

• I recommend to save this new Line Out setting to another Registration now.

• If desired, you can connect the output of an external device (e.g. an external Mixer) back to the AUX IN sockets of the Genos. The AUX IN volume can be controlled in the Mixer display ("Panel" tab, page 2).

Note that the Sub Outs are NOT controlled via the Master Volume dial. In addition, as is well known, only the Insertion Effect and Vocal Harmony effects can be applied to the sound output from the Sub Outs. The so called "System Effects" (Chorus and Reverb Effect blocks, and when the Variation Effect is set to "System") will not be applied.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
