What's the main difference between these two keyboards?

Hi Norman,

the SX600 has only a standard keyboard (not the new FSB keyboard of SX700/900) .

The 600 has a much smaller display and no touch screen. So you always have to use the cursor buttons & Enter.

The 600 has no DIN MIDI sockets (only USB-MIDI), but has also USB Audio (which bigger models don't have).

The 600 has only 100 MB of Expansion Wave Memory (SX700 has 400 MB, the SX900 has 1 GB).

I suggest you to call up the SX600 specs site. There you can directly compare the specs of SX600, 700 and 900:

Hi Norman,

Tyros2/3/4/5 and Genos have a high quality "FSX" keyboard (that could also called "half weighted"). PSR-S models and also SX600 have a standard keyboard (that has a relatively short key action and makes more mechanical "rattling" noises when it is played).

The "FSB" keyboard (introduced by Yamaha when SX700/900 came out) is, so to speak, in the middle between the other two keyboard types. It offers a much better "feel" than a standard keyboard. When you click on the "FSB Keyboard" symbol on the SX700 or SX900 product page, a pop-up window appears with the following text:

New Keyboard Action - FSB Keyboard

FSB Keyboard offers remarkable playability thanks to its heavier initial key resistance and greater key travel. The refined keyboard structure, with an adjusted fulcrum, allows you to play comfortably even on the backs of the keys whilst upgraded components suppress horizontal key movement.

The sx600 is lighter in weight (8.1kg) if portability is a factor

It is for my a ideal starters arranger keyboard to learn a lot
Has the same midi specification als Genos flagship keyboard , so you can record styles in a DAW

I am using now also multi-recording feature to record styles in midi file format 1

Do not forget about the voice layers: SX600 has Right 1 and right 2 whereas SX700/900 has also Right 3 to layer up or use in split mode ...

The SX600 has a smart chord feature what enables you to play songs with one - finger too,  like also in the standard fingering chords modes.
Yamaha is thinking on people who want quick play songs with sophisticated chords what really user friendly is.
Playing with one-finger is not a big deal compared with playing full chords
Everyone can play on his own way he or she likes the most and with a single chord you can concentrate on the melody

Fred's right, Yamaha has made this instrument accessible and enjoyable to players at all levels. And Norman, it doesn't matter how good we think our playing skills are compared to the person a level down, we are we are all very poor compared to the person just one level up. And there are a lot of levels.

Main difference between SX600 and SX700 is a matter of personal taste. For me, most important points are that the SX600 has no touch screen, has very limited expansion memory and cannot play mp3 files.

One thing I'm not keen on with the SX900 is that the USB-B MIDI port won't work with external keyboards - the firmware for this only talks to host computers.     It looks like the SX600 does have one USB-A MIDI port which can talk to keyboards though, but then again it doesn't have dedicated MIDI DIN ports.

The Korg Pa1000 has USB-A and USB-B ports which can talk to external keyboards, so this seems to be a spot that Yamaha is behind on, at least on the SX700 and SX900.

On the psr sx600 wav. files can be used and don't understand why not mp3 ?
Well it is all marketing i think
When the next psr 700/900 successor comes i am aware of the mp3 feature
