Genos freezes when searching for 3rd party styles on USB

There are two ways to look at this Abby. One way is to reassure members who are planning on buying Genos that they are getting a reliable keyboard. I think you will agree that there has been so much negativity spoken on here about the keyboard, more than I can ever remember than any other keyboard which has gone on and on and been more harmful than good. The other way is that although I and many others have had no problems we will always still try to help if some one asks for it so I have to disagree with you on this one.

There is a tendency by some people of saying " there is no problem with mine " in many different posts over the years after  people who have encountered a problem in their keyboard appeal for suggestions, explanations or solutions.

I must reiterate again that this is not a helpful attitude.
It would better to not comment at all.

Abby,

Why are you being so hard on people who are trying to help?

In fact, the first thing you want to know is whether others are experiencing your problem or not.

When I reported the problem of reduced font sizes for text files in V2.00, it would have been very helpful to know that it was working for others. It's the first step in finding a solution.

People post comments on this forum not to be mean, but because they are trying to help. Any comments which reduce their propensity to help are not helpful.

Cheers,
Fred

Hello Fred.

It is absolutely not my intention to be hard on anyone.

I was simply making a suggestion that when a forum member reports a problem,
it is not helpful to respond with "mine works fine."

People don't invent these issues.
They report them because they are experiencing a real issue.

In this particular case, several others have reported experiencing the same problem.

My apologies to all   if my comments were considered as being hard on anyone.

I didn't have any particular person in mind when I commented.
It's just that the "mine is fine " responses keep popping up every now and then.

As you can see from the posts above,  there are members who are genuinely trying
to help, and I cannot thank them enough.

I have offered them my deep and sincere thanks and will continue to do so as other
members chip in.

I am desperate, as I have to travel in a few days armed only with my USB drive and
really appreciate positive suggestions that might lead to a solution.

Best Regards,

Abby.

Abby,
As Gary says, it MIGHT be a corrupt file, but it also might be that there is something wrong with your USB stick or the keyboard itself.  Although rare, these things do malfunction.
I suppose there is not another Genos anywhere close to you that you might try the drive with.
If you want to make a copy of your USB drive and send it to me, or upload it to where I can get it, I will try it on my Genos to see if the same things happen.  That would eliminate a few things, if it were to work o.k. on mine.

I agree with Don. Upload that stick so others can provide some first hand assistance using their Genos keyboards and try to duplicate, and possibly solve the problems you encountered.

Good luck,

Hello Gary and Don.

Thank you both for your response.

I have bought a brand new 4GB USB drive and saved just the 60 styles that I'll need to use for the gig,
together with the lyrics, registrations, and edited RH voices that I use.
I have nothing else on the drive.

It has been properly formatted, but that's a given, as i always format my USB drives on the
keyboard itself since the days of my T3, when I only used a USB drive to transfer stuff from
my PC.

The problem with freezing seems to have disappeared with this new drive, but that's probably
because I am using a very small quantity of files now.

I'd like to stress again that my usual USB drive beneath the keyboard had been working
perfectly with no trouble at all since February, when  I acquired my keyboard, and that the
issue of the keyboard freezing only began after the update to V2, about a week ago.

Thank you both for your suggestion of my uploading the USB drive for study.
I may well do that but I will wait a few days first, to see if the problem has been banished
for good

For now I am just content that I can concentrate on the music and travel preparations.gh

I will delve deeper into my USB drive problem when I get back, as I probably will be
quite busy for the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Thanks again and  Best Regards.

Abby.

Abby, just checking to see if your problem has been solved by the new USB drive.

Inquiring minds want to know, ;)

Hi Gary.

It is a strange problem that now comes and goes.
It not only does it with 3rd party styles, but also with T3 and T5 styles.

I have now spent 5 days moving registrations and styles back to the User drive of
my keyboard, as well as making long overdue adjustments to style and RH volumes
and live control settings.

I had a huge folder of styles on my USB drive that I had downloaded from a website called
Songstyles.nl that had many corrupt styles, and once I had removed the folder the USB
drive started opening up a little better but the problem soon returned.

Even though Chris advised me not to put styles on the root directory of the USB drive, I
decided to take a risk and put 60 styles and associated registrations there anyway,
which seems to have taken care of the freezing problem with those particular styles

Now I have the styles on my User drive connecting to registrations also on the User
drive, and the styles on USB connecting to registrations on the USB.

But when I use registrations where one song connects to USB and another song connects to
the User drive, the freezing problem starts all over again.

I hope that this explanation makes sense somehow.

Sorry that it took so long to reply.
I've  been working overtime on the freezing styles problem as well as practising,
in the hope that we can finish this recording business before the studio people decide
to run off for Christmas vacations.

Best Regards,

Abby.

Sounds as if you are in the process of getting the bugs worked out - at least I hope that is the case.

Good luck, old friend,
