Midi files are just getting messed up

I'm working with Cubase 10 LE, but after hours of work on midi files. the end result just plain sucks.
This is what I am doing

Load a Midi file, which plays awesome on my PSR 975,
I turn the volume down for the Vocal, and save it as a midi file again.
Once I load it back in my PSR 975, the sounds are different and complete drum tracks are just gone and replaced with other items.

I can't seem to figure out why that is.
Why can't it keep the original music instruments that it was created with ?

Am I missing something?

If I try Cake walk, then I don't seem to have that problem, but I paid for cubase, so i expect it to work the same.

I went on the Steinberg forum, and they are unable to help me, and referred me back here.

I attached a midi file.
1. Original
2. Saved in Cubase
3. saved in Cakewalk.

The whole drum part and more is just gone from the cubase file, and some other instruments too once I play it on the PSR
the original and Cakewalk saved ones, are working fine.

Anyone has any idea as of why this is possible?

Cubase did remove the sy***
Try to setup cubase with your yamaha keyboard
And set cubase in xg reset mode
Cakewalk did removed the most info
The old cakewalk don't see the special yamaha data
Chord events are gone after saving
Try to download the Free cakewalk sonar
It can handle the yamaha data

Thank you.
Since I only have a laptop, I need to get something for setting up Midi to the Keyboard.
Unless you meant something else ith "Try to setup cubase with your yamaha keyboard"

I am using the Free Cakewalk by BandLab (latest version) (couldn't find anything for Yamaha settings)
I'll look into the Cakewalk Sonar one.

You have to setup the voice lists from your keyboard in cubase
try to vind them on the internet
Try to keep the syex in the midifile
Sometimes the sy*** is set apart from the midi file
Try to avoid that
Perhaps there is a filter you can edit to keep the sy*** in the midi file

I don't have Cubase
It is try or error
or ask a Cubase user

I have no idea if cubase 10 LE supports sy***, but i have cubase 10 pro and that does support sy*** messages, however, by default this sy*** messages are filtered, so you have to set the preference yourself to include those. To do that go to:

- file - preference - midi
there you see two sections: midi file and midi filter
on one of those pages (i'm not in the studio at the moment) you can find a checkbox where you can tick the filter sy*** messages in your system. Be sure that that checkbox is unticked and try again. You problem should be solved if you untick that checkbox.

Strange that nobody on the cubase forum could give you this answer, in my opinion every experienced cubase user should have known this.

Hi robinez thanks voor the Info
I don't use Cubase no more
when you have only one keyboard you don't need Cubase
it is to complicated

I use xgworks from Yamaha
It got all synth and keyboard models already in the Prg
Just select your model and all is there
The mixer got all voices and you can add effects panning volumes etc.

Thank you all for the information.
and i also have to look into that XGworks.. that sounds interesting as well
I found the sy*** checkbox under the filter.
I'll give that a shot today later...  have to go to work now :)

Janus

Yamaha stopped with xgworks
The newest models are not supported
But there are people  make them
Only you have to wait  sometime
I found de tyros 5 file
It works perfect
You can always use the standaard xg setup
Usefull for simple editing

Aah ok.

btw.  the Sy*** didn't make a difference.
so I'll keep Cakewalk for it then.. at least that works.
