Hi

::) :-X :-\ :)I hope you are having fun like me with this new Windows 10 update!!!
Genos 2     AMD RYZEN  9 7900  12 Core Processor 32 ram,   Focusrite Scarlet 4i4 4th Gen.

SeaGtGruff

I installed 1903 as soon as it was available to me. But then I noticed that my Start Menu had lost all of my installed apps, so I uninstalled 1903 and rolled my system back to 18-whatever. I haven't had the nerve to reinstall 1903 yet.

Working all fine here. Any major OS update essentially reinstalls the whole system and its more or less the same for all operating systems (macOS, Win10 or linux). I keep track of all custom settings I made on my OS in simple doc file for reference and fast setup if necessary. Finally I keep all my data on separate disk so those are never affected from any update. The only major problem are usually the drivers but those sometimes even God can't fix.  ;D :)

Hi
Had a bumpy ride and tried to put old system image back, but somehow the windows 10 Image was not playing ball.
I rescued what i was doing ,and a lot of putting codes back in and Sampletank gave me hell with Syntronic. Pathway problems ,now sorted after losing it for a bit.
I realized the next day that my system image from external drive was not quite plugged in properly
I will get rid of the old Windows now and take another System image.
Now back to integrating the Genos with VST.
You must have usb and external drives unplugged to update to 1903 or it will fail
Not much has changed for me. All looks the same as 1803.
I have noticed that my machine shuts down in a flash now. screen looks brighter..

All the best
John :)

That might be part of why I had problems with it, because I have an external hard drive that I moved a lot of files to in order to free up space on my internal hard drive, and I don't think I'd disconnected it before trying to install 1903. I'll certainly disconnect it before trying again.

When I open my Control Panel and search for installed updates, it shows my most recent Windows 10 Home update as KB4465065. Where are getting this 1903 from????

Go to "Settings" - "System" - "About" - Scroll down to "Windows specifications" and it should list your "Edition" and "Version."

Lee Batchelor

Got it, Michael. Mine is 1809. Thanks.
Looks like 1903 hasn't come through for me yet.

Yes, 1809 is the version before 1903. If you go to "Settings," "Update & Security," and click on "Check for Updates," it should indicate whether the features update (version 1903) is available to download and install. Other types of updates ("cumulative updates") for your current version will download and install automatically if you check for updates, but I don't think that features updates will install automatically-- unless it's controlled by a setting that I've got turned off.

I have recently updated my PC to 1903 and I see no difference; everything is working as it should be.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Lee

The update is out here in UK and if you get the update unplug any USB drives whilst updating.
I have got all working and dumped Old Windows as there are quite a few gigs in that.

Got a terrabyte USB drive and it took all night whilst asleep to make a windows 10 system image.
I have 765 gig in my I7 machine.
Took the computer to the system Image to check whether it would go and clicked the go to windows square as i had C and D drive ready to go.
Never had any trouble making and restoring from windows 10 system Image backup and restore.
I had a few troubles at first, but i think it was pilot error again.
I do like to check the System image though as that is imperative.

If you have VST's you may have to confirm your licences again
With Cubase you have to uninstall the e-licence and go to Steinburg site to download a new one which you can do with a few clicks.
Once downloaded it verify's and away you go again.

To check go to search bar and type in Windows Update  and then click updates to see if you have the possibility of downloading Version 1903.
1903 is really a new version of Windows 10 and the other KB things etc are the regular updates inside 1903 the same as 1803.
Also Mike is right --Press Start go for the gear wheel Updates and settings. Windows update in list on left column.
Thank heavens that stupid Cortana is off.

All the Best
John :)

Tried 1903 on 3 separate occasions this weekend and each time YouTube would not play any video, all I was getting was the timing circle rolling round, but after reverting back each time to 1803 then YouTube was fine again?? My main concern was possible problems with my DAW running "Sonarworks ref4" and "SoundTheory Gullfoss" which are active all the time when playing but this was fine in 1903... so i need YouTube and back to 1803 for now... any ideas what the YouTube problem could be?

Turns out I can't update to 1903 because my "Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) User Interface and Driver" is out of date. When I open the properties and try to download the latest Intel driver, it says I already have the latest driver for my machine, but Microsoft has admitted they have a conflict with my Intel driver, which is version 15.2.0.1020. This should prove interesting because I can't refuse an update from MS because that's how they generate their income stream - feeding us crap we don't want and selling advertising based on same.

I have no idea what to do :(.

There are various ways to check the Win version.
It might be quicker to press the Windows key and R (for Run) simultaneously, then type Winver in the box/ Enter

Because much of what we do with our Genos hinges on a stable Windows OS. It may seem off-topic, but it isn't for a certain percentage of us. The big concern is likely to do with Cubase.

I never thought of Cubase and I have never used it either and have no intention of ever using it as I play live Cubase is for fabricators I still cant under stand why people cant play live  :(

I would say that referring to Cubase users as "fabricators" is about as low as one can go when describing a fellow musician. I play a pretty good piano but I also delight in arranging entire tunes and staying as authentic to the instrument that occupies the track. For example, I don't add a lot of grace notes to a trumpet track the way piano players would. I used to play trumpet and actually never played a grace note :).

The point is, Cubase is an excellent tool for musicians to express their overall knowledge of music. I would estimate that most Cubase users are likely musicians who have "played live" for a long time or who at least performed to a large extent on stage. Fabricators? I think not.

I hadn't even noticed that the thread was posted to a Genos subforum, but you're correct that it isn't really a Genos topic, so I'm moving the thread to the Sequencers subforum since there's no subforum for operating systems. :)

JohnS (Ugawoga)

The reason i posted to Genos forum is because it has everything to do with the Genos
People will take notice of the Genos forum more than the software section.
This is important for Genos owners that want to get ahead.

Note to Lee and all,  This worked for me.

Hi John,

I do have rapid storage technology by Intel. I read where MS is working with Intel to solve the problem. That explains why my system update for 1904 is pending. Otherwise, MS updates automatically during my "quiet hours." Windows updates are obligatory. You can no longer turn them off, as I understand it. We used to be able to refuse Windows updates in XP and earlier.

In 1903 there's an option on the Windows Update screen to pause updates for 7 days. I think maybe it had always been possible to do something like that in Windows 10, but from what I'd read it was sort of hidden away-- perhaps something you had to go into the Registry to do?-- but now they've made the option accessible. In theory, I guess it lets you put off updates as long as you wish, assuming you keep postponing updates 7 more days.

Didn't know that about the updates. Thanks for the info!

The trouble with not being able to refuse updates if you have programs like Jaws or Zoomtexst (for visually impaired) is that these programs won't be able to function properly after the update. Then we have to wait a considerable amount of time (depleting our vocabulary of not so nice words) for the programs to be compatible with windows again, - then all is well, til another update come, and nowadays they come very often. BTW, Win7 media player don't get any metadata support any more. They want to force us to only use Win10. Maybe we should get a time machine and travel back to 1903? No Microsoft, but unfortunately no electronic keyboards, at least not like the ones we have today....
