Hi Folks,
I can't install the update. I've downloaded the  file (which the iMac automatically unzipped) to my flash drive usb stick  which I then  plugged into the Usb to device  on genos. I then held down the start/stop button with the power on button. A message then comes on ' please insert the install media'. which is already inserted. So then I take it out and reinsert it again. But nothing happens. I've tried with two different usb sticks.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Make sure the flash drive was formatted in the Genos and that the unzipped firmware file is in the root directory.

Hi Alfred I notice that someone else has posted the same problem on Eileen's forum.

Hi Alfred,

Has the file been put on the USB inside a folder, by any chance?

I don't know what happens on Apple machines, but if I unzip the download on my Windows system, the actual update file ('GENOSSETUP.PRG') is put in a folder unless I specifically tell the system that I want it elsewhere.

For the update to work, the file must be at the root level of the USB, so if it is in a folder, even if this is at the root level, simply move the file out of the folder to the actual root level and try it again in the keyboard.

Everyone
Thank you for the advice. The only one I haven't tried is formatting the usb on the genos. Will give it a go.

Unfortunately formatting usb didn't make any difference. I still get the same message. I guess I'll have to contact Yamaha and see what they say.
Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

First off:  I am one of the "gripers who prevent owners from enjoying their Genos and have been advised to get rid of it if I don't like it". ;D ;D ;D

In this update matter I have had no problems whatsoever
startig with 1.2 all the way to 1.4. (missed the warning  1.4 is irreversible, but no problem as 1.4. introduced some new home page features I like and the features it disabled were not important to me )

It did help me that I printed the instructions for update to 1.2 . In fact have been using them for all consequent updates which of course is not the correct way.

Maybe having the instructions right before your eyes on a letter- size sheet of paper would help you to. The instructions are easy to follow if you know the  PC technicalities of unzipping, rootdirectory, using a (preferably not too old) USB stick formated on the Genos.  I for one would have had problems had I not printed the instructions.

Thanks for advice Kaarlo
In the past I've had no problem updating firmware for the Tyros and more recently the Genos so it's a complete mystery why I can't update to 1.4.

Kaarlo von Freymann

Sorry to hear, I am not very good at helping with solving mysteries  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) I believe Fred  and - sorry can't remember his name now -  that guy who has given us excellent help and advice in technical matters,  are the only ones that may be able to help you.

If the software on your Genos is corrupt a reset might help you, (be careful in what you choose and make a back up)  If that does not help there is a service reset that once helped me but I was reprimanded for giving information how to do that reset as it is only meant for competent YAMAHA service people which I do not claim to be and have reason to suspect you are not ;)
BTW IMHO the only thing that 1.4 really gives you is a much better home screen.(I really liked it)  Others may disagree (my highly apreciated friend Abby did) others  advise you to post  THANKYOU YAMAHA so that they do not get disgruntled and stop giving us free updates.

Cheers

The Genos is not recognizing the upgrade at all.  You may have just received a bad download.  If you have not already done so, try another download.

Roy

Alfred59

Thanks for the suggestion  Roy but  I've already tried that. In fact I've tried everything. Yesterday I got in touch with Yamaha uk who are sending me a copy of their firmware 1.4 in case my version is somehow corrupted so keeping my fingers crossed that will work.

I see a few people have advised a factory reset, and I too think that's a good idea.

Have you tried that yet?

Here's a question for the 1.4 upgrade,  I backup the complete system to my computer.  could 1.4 be reversed by overwriting the software on the hard drive?

I'm not willing to try this by the way, lol

Cheers,

Colin

Alfred,

The update can only be GENOSSETUP.PRG --- Sometimes Mac Book adds a -1, -2, or -3 Between GENNOSSETUP and PRG.

This has to be deleted (-1 or -2 ) before loading into the Genos !
