Hi my name is Brian, I have just purchased a PSR-E463 and it's been a good few years since I last owned a Yamaha Keyboard. So much has changed in those years with the technology of these Keyboards I'm learning from scratch now.
I'm 63 and have been retired for 5 years now. I started having piano lessons when I was a lad, my Mum played Piano so she encouraged me to learn. Unfortunately I just didn't get on with it so gave up on the lessons. When I started in Secondary School they offered free lessons in playing the Trumpet, so I took that up instead. I went on to play in local school orchestra, swing bands until I left school. Didn't really carry on with that, but took up Guitar instead. Played in a band for a while but only really play for own amusement. I haven't really touched a guitar for a couple of years now. I'm hoping this new keyboard will rekindle my interest in playing music again. Hope to find out more on how to make the most of it on here.

Welcome to the Forum.

You've come to the right place for help and information on your E463.

You do have the advantage that you have played other instruments and so must have some basics about notation and chords which will come in very handy.

The guys and gals here are all super and will help you in any way they can.

Oh yes I can read music OK. The only problem I have is that I can't get my left hand to play something and the right to play something totally different which is why I gave up learning the piano. I tend to use auto accompaniment with single finger chord. I would like to explore recording and using Ipad/Laptop with the E463.

Some parts of your story sound similar to mine-- minus the guitar, which I've never attempted to play.

I hope you enjoy playing with your PSR-E463! I have a few previous models in that line, and there are a number of other members here with the PSR-E463, PSR-EW410, or previous models, so we'll see if we can't get you back on the road to "keyboard recovery"!

The hardest thing for me to deal with is reading two staves of music at same time.  I'm retired Army bandsman playing bass clef trombone for years.  I also play treble clef led lines and play chords on keyboards with no problem.  BUT I can't read a second grade piano part with both clefs at same time!  So welcome to the club my friend.
