Hi Folks,

This thread is for discussing the Midi Maker 2 (MM2) tests done by the Beta testers and my responses/advice. This opening post will list the main test areas and the comments of testers.

  • Running MM2:
Phil (Kaimei19): Runs fine on his laptop in landscape mode but not in portrait/tablet mode.
RL: MM2 is designed to run on a standard windows screen of at least 1280 by 1024 resolution. The window itself can be resized but the content is cannot be rescaled like a web page. I may look at doing a UWP (Universal Windows Platform) version in the future.

  • Selecting an instrument
Phil (Kaimei19): Would like to see the program remember his choice of instrument.
RL: That is a great suggestion and a fairly easy feature to add. I will look into that.

  • Selecting/Changing styles
    Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed

  • Selecting/Changing the midi driver
    Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed
RL: MM2 is designed to set the driver to the first one that is not the Windows Synth.
The midi driver automatically has two ports: Digital Workstation-1 and Digital Workstation-2

  • Playing Standard Midi Files (SMF)
    Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed

  • Selecting Help
    Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed

  • Opening and saving song files
Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed. He notes that that the prompt to save a song appears even when there are no changes.
RL: Better to be safe than sorry.

  • Creating and playing MM2 midi files
Phil (Kaimei19): Working as designed. He notes that when clicking "Stop Midi", the keyboard does not stop playing.
RL: Requires me to send a "Stop" message from the program. I will look into that.

More to come.... Thank you Phil.

Richard,

Will MM2 recognize other MIDI drivers/connections such as a MIDI cable connected to the 5-pin DIN port.

MM2 works through Windows so if Windows recognises a driver then so will MM2. The USB driver is simply a redirection of midi messages to USB instead of traditional midi ports.

Having said that I cannot test this because I don't have any hardware midi ports.

I have been using MM2 it extensively to create song files and so far it has stood up to everything I could throw at it. Still also looking for some more feedback from testers. Thanks to those folks who have sent me messages with questions and suggestions.

I will make a few more changes (like implementing an method to remember the last chosen instrument and midi device) and then I think I will make a tutorial video and release the software to all.
