I have a Midi file which have lyrics & chords and when I load this midi file in Cakewalk Program very old version 3.1
and after doing the editing & saving the file when playing back through my Merish 4 Mixer, the chords no longer exist!!!

Any suggestions how to retain the embedded chords in a Midi File when using Cakewalk Software Program???

Are there any other software programs when doing the editing will retain the chords embedded in a Midi File??

Thanks for your help and advice in this matter.

Oz

How are these chords encoded in the MIDI file— that is, what type of message are they in? It sounds like either Cakewalk 3.1 doesn't recognize that message type and ignores/discards it, or maybe it has the ability to understand that message type but the configuration settings are set to filter it out— in which case you can try changing the configuration settings.

I don't know cakewalk 3.1. Why not use Mixmaster or Producer to work with your midi files? They will not strip out the chords.

Hey!
The same thing happened to me, that both lyrics and chords disappeared.
It was because I saved as MIDI 1, one should save as MIDI 0.
That's the format Yamaha uses.

Hi Oz,

Cakewalk 3.1 was released in the early 90s, correct? That's pushing 30 years. I would be tempted to upgrade to a more recent DAW. Even if you get it to work, you're missing so many valuable recording tools in the older version.
"Learn" your music correctly, then "practice" it. Don't practice mistakes because you'll learn them.

cakewalk sonar shows the chords
But i use xgworks
It shows the chords
You can also make a chord track load a style to it
With intro breaks and ending, and expand it to a midi file

Try Cakewalk by Bandlab. It is the new Sonar and it is totally free to use.

Before processing MIDI in Cakewalk export Lyrics in the Text file with PSRUTI. After processing, return it to midi.
