My Tyros 4 has developed a fault on powering up the panel lights come on the dim but none of the blue lights are showing or the white light for the music finder.

Hi ...

There is a method of entering a full test diagnostics system on most Tyros's
I believe it is entered using the C# chord (of three notes) 2nd octave up.

I had a look on the web .. and there isnt much. There is something in a post on another forum .. here, which talks about using the test diagnostics. This was for an early Tyros, but I'd try it to see it it works.

I would try a test first before anything else.! That's if it does a self test on the lights.
Probably end up having to do a Factory reset, so back up your user stuff.
Hopefully, someone else here will know the T4 better!

Tests 24-27 check the panel leds on the Tyros 4 per the service manual.

Could it be a cable as its affecting both the right and left board?

Hello,
For the test of Light, download thé service manuel here:

Keep in mind that there are literally hundreds of tiny cable connections in the keyboard, all of which can possibly shake loose during shipment. This is not unusual with not only keyboards, but all electronic devices. Sometimes the solution is just to open the keyboard and press each connection into place, and wallah! The damned thing works just as it was designed to work.

Good luck,

Hi.

If it's for any help at all, here is a video about open / tear down a T4, and another one where soldering bad lamp connection inside T5.

On booting the Tyros in test mode I get the message as in the picture.

This indicates there is the possibiity of a lose plug or connection to one of the boards.

The 'SwErr' message is actually indicating that the system thinks one of the panel switches is being held down!  This could indicate that the contacts of a switch have stuck, even if the actual panel button seems to be up!

The '070B' in the warning is a code (in Hex) that represents the switch that it thinks is involved.  However I have no idea which switch this is!

So I decided to check a few switches on my T4 by holding them down while entering the Test mode and recording the errors reported.

After a few attempts I found that '070B' was reported when the Metronome button was held down.

So it might be worth pressing the Metronome button a few (dozen?) times to see if you can free the contacts assuming that the problem is with this switch.

The switches on Tyros are individual tactile switches (not rubber strips like on the PSRs!). They can be replaced quite easily if necessary, but you need to be able to solder!

Even though you are getting the 'SwErr' message, you should still be able to carry out the tests in the Test program.  The test that checks the switches is #023, but when you start it you must press the switches in the order given on the screen.  You can't go straight to a specific switch. The Metronome button is the 21st in the check sequence.

This may not be your problem, but I would say that it must be worth a try!

Edit:  I just tried turning on my T4 with the Metronome button held down and allowing it to boot normally, and it didn't produce the symptoms that you are experiencing - all panel lights worked as they should!

The sequence only lets me go as far the song ii button but other buttons are affected.

Marty

Hi,

The button test should also checks if an incorrect button is pressed. When on the song ii test does a different button get recognised? You should see a message of which button it has recognised. You could also try this on the proceeding button test in order to check the song ii button. For example when testing the mic type select and mic setting buttons.

Can you be more specific regarding 'other buttons are affected'?

This is heading towards a Factory Reset.
No way can this be broken cables .. but I'd check ANYTHING that moves with cables connected .. like screen. I presume ribbon track.
Maybe OS corruption .. (Reset)

or maybe poor solder joints on a power board.
Fault codes: Do not take it as gospel what the code is saying. The auto industry is full of ECU error codes that say one thing, but turn out to be something completely different.

Ive decided to put it in for repair hoping its something simple. Ive done a factory reset  and reset the system software. The buttons are physically working, apart from the ots link and auto fill which work intermitantly when this happens it affects other buttons on the buttons around the screen and some on the left board with with the styles and fillin etc.

Well My Tyros 4 has been repaired it was the left panel board and a power supply issue. £370. Just waiting for its return.
