970 to 975 Upgrade

As I mentioned in another thread, I recently purchased a new S975 and have had it for short time now. My initial reaction was that the keys on the 975 felt cheaper than those on my 970. I still believe that is true, but it is not terrible, just a bit disappointing. I am now used to the new feel and don't even notice. I have noticed an subtle but pleasant difference in the sound of the 975 over the 970. To me, it sounds clearer and cleaner than the 970. this applies to the voicing and to the vocal processor (very important to me), and it applies whether listening to the internal speakers or through my Bose L1 Compact.  I have now used it for a couple of gigs and I have had very favorable comments. I even had one person come up to me and ask  me if I had a new speaker because I sounded so much better (might have just been one of my better days!).

While I have not yet had time to try out some of the new features of the 975, I am very pleased with the sound and the ease of changing over from the 970. I keep all of my styles and registrations on a USB device and when I plugged that into the 975 everything worked just fine. I did do the usual tweaking to the EQ and Compressor but then away I went.

There has also been some discussion on the new change in color from the dark grey glossy finish of the 970 to the matte black of the 975 and in MHO I think it is an improvement. I think the new matte black looks very classy and professional. (But then, I have been involved with theaters and stages for many years where everything is matte black.)

Bottom line - I am quite pleased with the 975 an looking forward to using it for quite a while.

Paul B's analysis is right on the money.  My reaction, as well, moving up from the S970.  The changes are subtle, but present and noticeable, if you're familiar with the S950 and S970.  If you want a gigantic, startling change, it's not there.  Sit it out for another 3 or 4 years, until the next upgrade appears.  However, if you're one who wants the best sound possible from a PSR model, then, the S975 is your ticket.

Thanks for your followup, Paul. In a previous thread, I had voiced my initial disappointment when visiting the S-975 at my local store. Based on your experience, I will feel less apprehensive in the event I am forced to move to the S-975.
