I had a bunch of store credit from Musicians Friend after buying my GENOS (16% of purchase price) so I used it to buy a Maui 5 with covers.

PRO: Sounds very good.  Full range sound and loud.  Very light and portable with covers.  Total weight is 24.9lb (11.3kg).  The speakerless extensions weigh 2lb ea.

CON: My wife thinks it's ugly :-).  Says it looks like an old stove with chimney.  I kind of agree.  Not using extensions helps a bit. I will probably use 1 extension on gigs although with a 20 degree vertical beam width just the speaker column might be ok.  The ON/OFF switch is inconveniently located on the back next to the floor.  I am using a remote AC switch with it.

I will remove the Z623 speaker system with the satellite mounts I fabricated for my GENOS (back to the tv they go).  The Z623 didn't sound bad at all but the Maui 5 is better (5x better? Who knows?).

As an old audio amplifier designer I am very impressed with the performance of modern small speaker systems.  I guess it's due to super long throw woofers, huge rare earth magnets, and good ducted port design, none of which I used back in the day.

Hi Ed,
Congratulations on your new Genos!  ( I'm wondering what a Maui 5 is?)

Thanks, Gloria

It's a speaker system Gloria.

I have been using 2 Maui's for the past 2 years
Good value for money, lightweight, clear natural sound

I use in my studio for rehearsals and gigging, same sound all round.

I have 3 other systems including Stagepass so I can compare,
It's what your ears get used to I suppose.

Dollar for Dollar the Maui is a great buy.  I agree it's what your ears get used to, when I use my Genos I find the Bose has a better sound with the Genos to my ears.   However using the Maui/Pa4x seems to be a better combination.  It's all subjective, but both systems are great.
