Hello Friends

This last Saturday, my iPad did not work anymore.   Did not turn on anymore.   This is the iPad that i connect to my keyboard and use to play, all my PDF's were there . . . . so, it is critical for me.

I googled and did everything that was recommended to make it turn on.   But no luck.  Yesterday (Monday) i took it to the Apple Center in San Diego.      I was lucky that only waited an hour because did not have an appointment.  I was there before opening time and it was already packed with customers waiting in line to open.  !!!!

The Apple tech checked everything . . .. the bad news is that they could not fix it.   The good news is that there are a few more days on the warranty . . . . they will replace the iPad with a new one at no cost.    I barely made it. !!!

They also told me that fortunately, my Apple ID/iCloud backed everything as of Feb 10 (just a couple of hours before the iPad crashed  !!!!)

I was told that when the new one arrives, i should be able to restore everything from my AppleID/iCloud. They said that after the restore the new iPad will be a clon of the old one with everything i had, including apps and data.

Of course i do not know how to do the restore but will need to figure it out.   I did not have a lot of apps, only SongBook+ and a few other yamaha apps.

The only app i care about is SongBook+

I have a couple of questions in preparation to restoring it . . . . .

1. do i just donwload SongBook+ or do i need to buy again . . . . ?  (hope do not have to pay again).
2. will all my pdf's be restored within SongBook+ they way they were before . . . . as well as my annotations ?
3. will i need to relink each  SongBook+ song to the Genos again . . .  ?

I have all my PDF's stored in OneDrive where i donwloaded to the iPad/SongBook+.

Thanks for reading this.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Have a great day.

When you power on the iPad, it will shortly ask you if you want to restore from iCloud. Just say yes. It should restore everything.

You were lucky,  My iPad Pro 12.5 stopped working one month after the warranty had finished

I took it to the Apple shop but the engineer could not fix, as he pointed out, there are no screws on the back of an iPad to open it, it's a sealed unit, so, when it stops, that's the end,

Most unfair, I lost a lot of my music data, some were backed up and some not mainly because I just disliked anything to do with iTunes, I had to replace it, it's not cheap, now everything is on auto-backup to iCloud, it's taken me 6 months to rebuild my music data, little by little, I think I'm back now

Maybe I thought because I had an iPad and Apple quality that I it would never break,
I've heard of several others that just stop working on the fist 15 months and never start again

Life goes on.

Fred.
Thanks so much. Your advise is always so good.   I am looking forward to being able to restore from iCloud.

Sorry to hear about your iPad.   I guess it all depends on the specific iPad unit.  My wife has one that we got used. When we got it was already very used, the glass is now broken and it has been dropped several times but it is still going and going, it works very well.   Mine was  brand-new never dropped, only used it to play my music on the Tyros/Genos and it lasted less than a year.   Go figure.

Have a great day.

Well this got me thinking as I bought a new iPad Pro a month ago. I didn't add AppleCare which I always do with a new iPhone.

AppleCare gives another 12 months' warranty on top of the original 12 months and costs £39 in the UK.

You can buy it within 60 days of the original purpose so given Al Ram and Pino's experiences, I've just gone and bought it!

I should just add that it cost £89 not £39 but I think it's still worth it.

If they charge that much, they must be expecting quite a lot of claims.

Well it also covers breakages and having managed to drop 3 iPhones over the years ...

I did not pay for the additional warranty when I purchased the iPad.    I would pay now.   It is worth it.   !!!!!

Apple was really good, they replaced the iPad with a new one at no cost to me.   !!!   I restored everything from iCloud very easily.  Including SongBook+ and all the PDF's, links, etc.

I have not tested the new iPad with the keyboard yet.

thanks a lot

Watch out...
I got a new 10.5" iPad under warranty.
When i came home, my iPhone was nearby the iPad.
There is in iOS11.2.6 a feature that gives you on one of the devices a message to copy all Youri settings from the iCloud to the new iPad.
In my case only a part was restored.
In the past i did this many times on the old way with no loss.
