Hi Oz,

The Startech USB2VGAPRO2 is based on DisplayLink DL-195 display chipset, and so it works fine with Genos.  However, it only has VGA output, and the price is kind of high.

My preferred one is the DisplayLink DL-165 chipset based Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI display adapter, with DVI output, comes with VGA and HDMI output adapters, and much cheaper:
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Graphics-Multiple-1920x1080-Chromebook/dp/B004AIJE9G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1520522666&sr=8-4&keywords=plugable usb to vga dvi hdmi

Since you are in Canada, you can use the following link to purchase the above from Plugable Canada for CDN$56.95:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B004AIJE9G/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1520522850&sr=1-1

Thanks,
Paul

Note:  I highly recommend monitors with HDMI connection, when used with right-angled HDMI cable, the monitor can simply rest on the music stand of the Genos as a convenience.  It is also easier to have 2 external monitors with HDMI inputs using a HDMI matrix switch in case you need this setup for demo - one monitor for yourself, and another bigger one for the audience.

Thank you very much for your input.

I shall purchase the item from Amazon Canada.

I just found a U-Tube Demo using the External Monitor with GENOS as per following link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpDNsJSKsnM

In this demo he is using:

StarTech.com USB to VGA Adapter External USB Video Graphics Card for PC and MAC 1920x1200 Display Adapter USB2VGAPRO2

I shall purchase the one suggested by you i.e.  DisplayLink DL-165 chipset based Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI display adapter, with DVI output, comes with VGA and HDMI output adapters

Thanks and regards

 Hi Oz,

I recommend you use the USB port at the back of the Genos for your USB 2.0 display adapter.  In the Youtube video you referenced, the front USB port was used just for the sake of demo.  I usually use the front USB port for my USB1 flash drive.

I used 2 external monitors on Genos in this video, 1 for myself, and 1 for the audience:

Hi Paul,

I just ordered the adaptor from Amazon.ca for $ 56.00.

Not sure if they supply 3 adaptors or just as the confirmation received shows only one whereas when I placed the order it showed 3 different adaptors. Will have to wait and see what comes in the mail on 16th March.

It is nice to know that you can connect two monitors as my wife plays the keyboard which will help her a lot (rather than use the GENOS LCD screen which unfortunately does not have a tilt like TYROS 5) and the 2nd monitor can be used by our main vocalist.

Will give a try when I receive my adaptor(s).

Thanks and regards
Oz

Hi Paul,

I will be picking up my new GENOS from Yamaha dealer in about 10 days time.

Can I please ask a favor from you to give me step by step instructions on how to configure the GENOS to display the lyrics or notation on the external monitor. I use MIDI files with embeded lyrics.

Once I receive these step by step instructions I shall this out at the Yamaha dealer.

Thanks and regards
Oz

Hi Oz,

Plugable USB 2.0 to VGA/DVI/HDMI display adapter comes with the USB 2.0 display adapter itself (left), which already has the DVI connector built-in, 1 DVI-to-VGA adapter (bottom right), and 1 DVI-to-HDMI adapter (top right) as shown below:

There is no special procedure to configure the external monitor of the Genos.  Just plug the USB 2.0 plug of the display adapter to the back USB port of Genos, and connect the external monitor to the USB 2.0 display adapter.

Genos will automatically detect the presence of the USB 2.0 display adapter and starts displaying to the external monitor.  What you see on the built-in touch screen of the Genos is also displayed on the external monitor. So the external display is actually the screen duplication of the built-in touch screen.

P.83 of the Yamaha Genos owner's manual version D mentions how to display lyrics / notation with proper MIDI files:
https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/7/1130977/genos_en_om_d0.pdf

Please note that when playing MIDI files, the jumping red dot works on the built-in touch screen, but does not work on the external monitor.  Yamaha has not addressed this issue on firmware 1.20 yet.

Thanks,
Paul
