Style corrupted, what do I do?

Hello friends! I made a song with the attached style, and it was fine.It went in a fine, downbeat tempo, and had beautiful OTS voices. But when I highlighted the style today to do some more work on my song, the keyboard froze for a while. After that it will only play the style in an all too fast tempo, and with wrong OTS voices. It sounds funny. i have reloaded fresh copies of the style many times, but the S970 won't play it properly. I suspect the style is fine, but that something happened while loading it. I deleted all my registrations to try to solve this, but no luck. I wonder: Can I reset the keyboard without loosing everything on it? This is the strangest thing I have experianced with the keyboard so far. Alians behind this, do you think? :)

try this one
116 bpm right?

Thanks, Panos :) This is the right style, and I see that the tempo is 116, so the keyboard is playing it right. But how the heck did I make a midi song with the tempo of 81, and with other voices without remembering doing anytying but using the OTS??
I guess this must be a Major Senior Moment! Or the sequencer on the keyboard had one? I hope so :)
Thanks for the style :)

Who knows? strange things happen to computers sometimes.
It is nothing more in there than countless digits of 1 and 0.
While the s970 froze, something went wrong and those digits messed up a bit and gave wrong orders or something.
Or maybe a registation got involved there and changed have some things.
Is everything else works fine now on your keyboard?
If you need to reboot the system ask for instructions of how to do it and what parameters to select, in case it freezes again.
Likely I never had to do it on my keyboard.

I wish I could help......I usually turn the KB off and hope all is well when I turn it back on.  My advice contact Eileen Lowey with a PM (check the Performer listing).....she is an expert on these types of issues.  Whatever you do do not re-boot unless you know what you are doing....you could lose everything you have saved that is not KB original. I did it once!  Good Luck......Flip

Hi Toril,

For information, your version of the style plays OK on my Tyros4.  It is actually in SFF1 format, so it is not a version that you have ever saved on your S970 from Style Creator, although you can copy a style to your User drive or USB without the style format being changed!

I suggest that you check the 'TEMPO' setting in the 'STYLE CHANGE BEHAVIOUR' section of the 'STYLE SETTINGS' display.  (Press [FUNCTION] > TAB to MENU 1 > [G] STYLE SETTING)

If this is set to 'HOLD' or 'LOCK' and you change styles while a style is already playing, the new style will play at the tempo of the previous one.

In your other thread which I assume is about the same problem, you said "I was sifting through the styles without stopping the keyboard while doing it", which would mean that if the TEMPO setting was set to HOLD or LOCK, then once you started the first style playing, the others that you loaded without stopping the playback would play at the tempo of the first one.

I just tried setting the TEMPO setting in the STYLE SETTINGS display to HOLD on my Tyros4. I then loaded a style with tempo 90 and started it playing.  I then loaded your style which has a built in tempo of 116 without stopping the playback.  It played at 90 BPM, the tempo of the previous style.  When I stopped the style playing the Tempo remained at 90.

I then recorded a few bars of the style using MIDI Song Quick Record and it recorded at 90 BPM.

This may explain what has happened to you regarding the tempo change, but not really the OTS!  Perhaps you have more than one version of the style with a similar name but different OTS! Alternatively perhaps you loaded the style with the OTS Link button turned Off on one occasion and On another time!

There are three options for the Style Settings: Tempo on your S970 (Lock, Hold and Reset), but on my T4 there are only two (Hold and Reset) so the behaviour of Hold may be slightly different between the two keyboards.  The options available in the Style Settings display are explained on page 27 & 28 of the 'PSR-S970 Reference Manual'. which you may need to download.

I suggest that you check the current setting of 'Tempo' on the Style Settings display, and try the different options to see what they do.  Then decide which option works best for you.  Whatever you set it to, once a style is loaded, you can always make sure that it sets to it's 'built in' tempo by pressing both the Tempo (- & +) panel buttons together.

Thanks Flip. And thanks Ian for the very good explanation. I will try to change the tempo and OTS of this SFF1 style using style creator on the keyboard. Never done it before. Hope I can do it.

Problem solved. Style was not corrupted, by mistake I recorded a song with it in a slower tempo, and with other voices. With the help of friends I got some tips, and I used MixMaster to change the tempo, and the onboard function of the keyboard to change the OTS voices. So many helpful people here :)
