Anyone care to do a 'Dummies guide to inerting an image' in a post? Here's how I approached it:

1. Screenshot of a free software program with my added highlights
2. Read relevant posts from this board on how to do it
3. Use Photoshop to resize the image and save in a small file as both .jpg and .bmp to my desktop
4. Log in
5. Choose the most appropriate board to post
6. Copy and paste my text written in MS Word to the post as it has a spellchecker for errors/typos and wider leading between the lines to make it easier to type and read
7. Choose the 'insert an image' icon
8. Type the full path of where the image is stored
9. Select Insert
10. Nothing

Ideally, when we are ready to "Save" in Photoshop what to change in the dialog box to ensure the image is of the correct size  for the page and the file is the correct size.
PS I also tried the process in PAINT - same negative result.

Sam,

I just tried and had no luck either.
This is the first time i tried to post a picture on the new forum, always had no trouble on the old one.
I did this as a link instead of an image and it worked.

Thanks Rick. You have answered my question.

It would appear that apart from profile pictures, all images etc are not stored on the Forum server(s) only a link within the post to external storage. It makes sense if that is the case.

The only time I've used cloud storage was as an English teacher in a Chinese university where it was mandatory. That time it was a Chinese service provider that I didn't entirely trust. I will now create an account with either Dropbox or Google Drive. - the only two I know about.

Thanks Alex for the "Dummies" guide - perfect. I'm certain this will help other members too.

For the number of times I would include an image within a Forum post it's not cost-effective for me to use either Dropbox(annually £95.88) or Google Workplace(£70.80).

I've been so used to sending PDF, Powerpoint presentations, short videos to relatives, friends and former colleagues using WeChat for free it's all a culture change.

The service you highlight (imgbb.com) offers 32MB of free storage before a plan is needed. I'm guessing we can delete stuff there to stay within the free limit.

@Sam Wacker,

You don't need to remove your images from imgbb. The 32MB limit is for a single upload, meaning you can't upload an image larger than 32MB at once. However, you can upload multiple images as long as each one is under the 32MB limit.

For sharing other files, you can use cloud services like Google Drive, OneDrive, Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login, Mega, and similar services. Each of these cloud services offers limited free space to upload files.

Best regards,
Alex

Another very helpful reply that will benefit others too. Does the image appear in the post itself or is it like links to YouTube ?

If you follow the instructions I've provided, the image will appear exactly as shown in my example above.

As for the YouTube video, our forum allows you to embed YouTube videos so they play directly within your post.
To do this, simply click the YouTube button in the editor and insert your video link.

Best Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex
Followed your instructions to the letter. On Preview I got this message:

[/img]

The image was resized to 3400 x 1993 within the imgbb program as a test. File size of jpg 680Kb

No urgency for reply, busy with other things today.

Inserting an image is straightforward. I don't know what was going wrong but it' sorted now as you can see in my post here:

https://forum.psrtutorial.com/index.php/topic,70744.new.html#new

I now wish I had not tried to use the same logic as the Profile picture and gone for a better image.

BTW If we access the Forum without logging-in there is a system message that needs the first word corrected. This one:

Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

Thanks Alex

The system notice had a letter missing. That's why I mentioned it.

Appreciate your guide for Dummies.
