RE: How to sort entries in Playlist

Hello.

I am wondering if there is a way to sort in alphabetical order the entries in a playlist of 69 pages.

I created a Playlist, then loaded everything I had in 3 registration folders one after the other thinking that it would be very easy to find my registration all in one place and in a nice alphabetical order rather than going to my USB individual folders or even having to go to my search all the time.

However, when the entries in each folder were appended, Playlist function just appended them in the order there were loaded.  So I have A-Z say in pages 1-20-, then A-Z start for the second registration folderin pages 21 -40. etc.

    Regards.

A playlist simply loads a registration. Your registrations are in alphabetical order. If you want alphabetical order, just go to your registrations and load it yourself.

Alternatively, a playlist is a .tsv file. Take it to your favorite spreadsheet (like Google sheets) and sort them there.

Hello Fred.

I have little concept by the way of how things are working for me or how this Playlist is to react to achieve my goal.   I don't know how to edit the TSV file as my expectations are different than
what I expected which was as simple as open a file in edit mode and issue a sort command, but I see a totally different structure.

It seems to me that any add which has to be done by "APPEND" action does just that. Appends to end of file.  So if I abandon that thought, here is what I did.

    Course of Action:

1.  Took three registration folder and combined them into one PSR-All-My-Registration folder comprised of 652 entries.
2.  As they are all registrations in this folder I verified that they worked when I loaded them into my registration banks. So all good.
3.  Now all I want is to create "my own playlist" and load these entries into it and by default I would imagine that a new TSV file based on my entries will be created.  That is it.

Sounds very simple and straight forward. However was missing some important understanding of this simple PLAYLIST function which was not allowing me to
do this.  Just now saw a video on creating a playlist on Genos and realized that I was missing one key component and that was to select the "LIST" function for the add to the Playlist.

All my 652 entries are all sorted in alphabetical order just as I wanted.   Not sure if there is a limit on the number of pages/entries  that I can have in a single playlist. I would think no limit
as they are only pointers right?  Also if I should move those registrations which are now in my playlist entries to a different Registration folder, Chris stated that I will not be able to play those moves.

I did alter the name of the playlist it's self and of course it could not find it's original name. Named it back and all was fine.
I then renamed a registration in it's original location  to something else. Went back and refreshed my Playlist to see if the new name would should up and of course it should not because
of what is reflected in the TSV file. Assuming that the path indicators are all the Playlist wants which associates everything it needs to load that Playlist entry.

Verified that registration entry with the old name in the playlist when selected in the playlist did load and play properly.

    I leaned something new today.

    Correct?

   Thanks for your support.

         Regards.

Hi again.

As I am unable to quick edit the previous post update, I am appending some additional information. This is useful but you should not be doing what
I have done unless you are adventurous and want to push things to other limits which sometimes may not be recommended. As this is something new and
a learning curve for me, my next step was to see how to break this Playlist and understand it better.

 Scenario 1:

 1. Simply delete the registration from the registration folder that I had renamed and that was loading fine.
 2. Tried to load that Playlist entry  and got Message:  "File not found, or is inappropriate:
 3. The other entries in the Playlist still loaded fine as they should be.

 Scenario 2:

 1. Now to break the links in the TSV file, I decided to copy from a cloned backup that deleted file in the exact registration folder where it was deleted.
 2. I expected the Playlist to really get upset and it did.
 3. This time the Playlist would not even Load/Open issuing Message: Playlist records were not loaded due to  ERROR :652 Items.
 4. I suspect that the keyboard has information on that Playlist loaded in memory creating a mismatch.
 5. Powered OFF &  ON the Keyboard and now the Playlist/TSV file was loaded ok.
 6. Everything was function except that entry that I had played around and on the Playlist issuing Message: "File not found , or file name is in appropriate:"
Note that the entry was still on the list but this time had an " ! " icon in front of it. Indicating it had a problem.
 7. Well I think you know what is coming next>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
 8. Yes, I added to the playlist that deleted and recovered registration and guess where it put that one???? At the bottom of my entire list. Page 69 entry number 653.
 9. Everything was still all loading perfectly and it should as we are not keeping the TSV file happy with the update activities.

  Cleaning up:

  1. As I wanted that added entry in it's appropriate alphabetical location, I simply delete the entire Playlist and simply created it new again.

  Summary:

Well in summary, I have learned more than I ever knew before as well as exploiting something that now makes me utilize my keyboard in a more enjoyable manner.

I hope that this helps others get a better understanding of the Playlist behavior and for a better understanding of how to use it, this link is what
also helped me more forward.

Well I don't know if the system is the same as on Geno2 but having created your playlist & assed all songs to it, I simply press the A-Z button at the top left of the playlist screen. This sorts the complete list into alphabetical order. My registrations not all in one directory in fact they can be anywhere on the keyboard.

Hello Tony.

Appreciate your information. My expectation was as simple as you described. However, unless there is a simple way to trigger that option Icon on my keyboard, I don't
see it in my Playlist Menu.

I am not sure on the differences after Genos/Genos1 but maybe someone at Yamaha had a good cup of coffee one morning and decided to program it into the
 Genos2.

I have my work around now and am quiet happy.

     Thanks.   Regards   dom
