Kindly let me know if the drum notes of the Expansion pack can be added to .ins file of Cakewalk( Bandlab)? If so, what is the procedure?

Hi Chax,

If an instrument definition file didn't come with your expansion pack (or if you can't readily find one on the web), you can make a new one yourself with a little effort. An .ins file is in reality just a plain text file with a list of controllers, banks, voices, etc., that are unique to a specific instrument (or a group of similar instruments). These files can be created and edited with Windows' good old Notepad application.

The data of an .ins file has to be structured in a specific way. The easiest way to create a new file is therefore to make a copy of an existing one (such as the "General MIDI drums" file that is included in your Cakewalk folder), change the file extension of the copy to .txt and open it in Notepad. Here, you can replace or add the necessary text strings. When you're done editing, save the file, give it a suitable name and change its extension back to .ins. You can then assign the new file to your drum track, and the new note names should appear in the Piano Roll and Notes views (and possibly also the Drum view, but I don't have the right computer in front of me at the moment to confirm this).

As an alternative, you can use the included Drum Map Manager to create a custom Drum Map, but this only works on a per-project basis.

I hope this answers your question.
