How about starting a Monthly Challenge.

I quite like listening to songs on "The PSR Performers "page. And I often think that it would be great if a  new Section could be created called "The Challenge For This Month"
The TDP Formum which closed down recently used to have a monthly Challenge but  I always thought the Voting component could have been done away with. I usually put an entry in each month, but sometimes ran out of time because I couldn't find a suitable Style to accompany my entry. I have not played my Yamaha SX or my 970 nearly as much since it closed down.
The monthly Challenge took me out of my comfort zone. It made me listen current compositions and realize that heaps of good music has been made in the last 100 years.
I got very few votes , but that did not bother me as I got so much enjoyment from researching different genres and trying to produce an entry which I was happy with.
One month we had to play a song by Rodgers and Hammerstein and I would have liked to play half a dozen of theirs, but we were limited to three entries.
One way of avoiding a system of members votes would be  to have a  Box labelled "Like"
That would greatly reduce the work load for the Admin Team and would avoid Positive or Negative comments on a members entry. I also liked the way some of the TDP members added a bit of background information on the composer or the group playing. And some even added a an appropiate picture to accompany their entry . Mobile  phones have great cameras built in and copywrite isses would pobably not be a problem.

Hello John,

Well, your suggestion has been tried here at our forum years ago (about 10 years ago or so). It didn't work out.

Thus those forum members created a separate forum for just such Challenges each month. Here is the link:

https://www.keyboardplayers.club/

Now everyone is satisfied.

The great news for you, at the "Keyboard Players Club", you can post a new song for the monthly challenge every 3 days. There is no voting as it is a "Challenge" and not a "Competition".

Currently there is a Halloween Challenge going on.

The November challenge is called "A Touch of Brass".
Pick your style, your choice of genre- then go to the Brass, Trumpet or Sax sections of your keyboard and Feature one or more of these voices somewhere in your song.

I hope to see you there.

Cheers

I had already posted about this subject but the post was lost.
This idea was stated of by me on my own forum years ago and was very popular. I never had any voting or like buttons. This to me is a very cold and lazy way of answering a member who has taken time to sit and play a song for us. It only takes a few seconds to write a few encouraging words.
The site also gives you your own hosting site to store and post your songs to anywhere. Also if you are looking for a stage to have your songs listened to then this is the place to be. It is a very helpful and friendly site

Thanks Eileen. Also, I'm glad that you pointed out that including  a "Like Button " is a lazy way and that it only takes a few moments of one's time to write some encouraging words.Upon reflection I agree. John.

Hello Friends!!

Years ago I remember a forum discussion on something similar. Myself, along with several others were discussing some sort of a "style club".  Participants would pledge to provide styles every month which would be shared among the participants. It didn't matter if these were new or modified styles. The idea being to have a steady flow of styles being shared. Lots of chatter, but very meager offerings...............it fizzled!

An idea of mine, to try and salvage this attempt was to start out with 1 style. This style would be passed around and each person would modify it. Something like a "perpetual" style!!

I"m game to try something like this again. Maybe all the new blood here can spark it.  -charley

I don't think a monthly performance challenge will work here, because I think there won't be enough interest, even the board songs played by forum members is not that popular anymore and you can post any performance there without the challenge.
The forum link Drake has posted are a forum more geared around showcasing your performances and the performers are all at different playing levels and are very friendly and encouraging, whereas this forum is geared around resource and information.

Thank you Drake M  and Eileen L.   I will certainly post things there. I think that I will get back to playing my beloved keyboard .It seems that I need a Challenge to get me motivated.

Hello John

I forgot to add in my original posting what the reason was for needing the spin off forum to be created.

You see the Challenges were very successful with our forum members and each month the number of people commenting kept growing in participation. The comments were over riding the section of the MOST RECENT DAILY comments found at the very bottom of the forum page.

The issue became if anyone posted a question with a problem they were having with their keyboard, it was buried or worse moved off the list before anyone could see it to help them.

Your challenge idea is great but this is just the wrong forum to host it.

Cheers
Drake

If members have questions about there keyboards surely they are posted in that section and are available to be answered there. Can't see how a challenge would effect this and if it encourages members to get more from there keyboard enjoyment then it must be a good thing.
