Hi

I'm currently using the GNS-MS01 speakers with my Genos 2, sound fairly good but I'm sure it could be better.

I have laying around a pair of Alesis M1Active 520 powered speakers I have used for many years as studio monitors.  How do I connect these to my Genos2, I tried the left and right speaker outlet ports but the volume was very low and muffled, so something is obviously not connected right.

Question : how do I correctly connect these speakers to the Genos2, do I still need the MS01 subwoofer to trigger an output?

hi Glen,
Just general guidance...
1. Disconnect MS01 subwoofer (for easier testing)
2. Alesis speakers should be connected to Genos LINE OUT / MAIN L & R sockets
3. Make sure that you're using normal cable with (2-pole) 1/4" jack on both sides.
4. Keep in mind that total loudness (on speakers) depends on Alesis GAIN setting and on VOLUME setting on keyboard.

It depends on your taste if you wish to keep MS01 subwoofer connected -that is, if you're happy with Alesis bass reproduction without subwoofer.

In case anyone else reads the thread...

Those Speaker jacks may look like LINE outputs, but they are not! The Yamaha subwoofer contains the audio cross-over and amplification for both the subwoofer and the Yamaha GNS-MS01 satellite speakers. The wiring is more complicated than you think. :)

Bottom line -- the satellite speaker jacks are part of Yamaha's unique GNS-MS01 design/wiring, and they should not be used with anything else.

Hope this extra info helps -- pj
