Hi,

Liked a few Arpeggios in Genos and tried to record it as a style. Looks like the Arpeggio function is disabled while recording a style.  Any workaround this block ?  All the Arpeggios would make for great style accompaniment

Arpeggiator only works with right hand chords and not left.

Thats not entirely relevant Eileen; the style creator records what you play with the right hand onto the currently armed part.

I think Anand wants to be able to play arpeggio while recording one of the parts (PHR1 or PHR2) so that the recorded part contains the arpeggio, which would transpose with the chord once part of the style.

Sadly I'm not at the keyboard just now so can't check. The best alternative I can offer is to use the step recording function for the style part and manually play the arpeggio. The same technique works with multipads.

Here's one work-around.

1. Record the arpeggio as a MIDI file with the right hand.
2. Save the MIDI file.
3. Load the MIDI into PadMaker-Midi and create a Multi Pad. (you can have up to 4 different arps in a Multi Pad)
4. Use the arp Multi Pad along with any style you choose.

NOTE: If you have a copy of StyleMagic you can convert the Multi pad to a simple style.  To load the MP into StyleMagic you will need to change the extension from .pad to .mid.

Once you have created a simple style (with up to 4-Part arps) you can now use Style Creator Assembly on the keyboard to add the arps to any style.  When you load the MP into StyleMagic you will have to move the arp channels from 1-4 to channels 13-16. Then create a Marker (Main A) in the multieditor (piano roll screen) then convert the MIDI to a style.  You will also need to delete the "text lines" from the file before you SAVE.

Joe gave good advice. First you need to record the arpeggio as a midi. It can be converted to Multipad but can also be entered directly into Style as Midi.
This is a video that describes how to insert a multipad into Style. MIDI file from recorded Arrpegio can be entered in the same way.
Both programs I use are free. MixMaster and XGWorks.

Thats absolutely correct DerekA

Thanks Joe and ckobu. This is quite a decent way to unlock the huge potential of  converting all arps into style phrases

Use Jørgen's midi2style converter to make a style file from a midi file.  You can download it at the following link:

http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/midi2style/index.htm

to transform 'my' arpegs' 'I' m doing 'like' this' 'it's' quick'

ckobu,

How do you set the correct CASM settings as you show in your video?  StyleMagic will do that for us when we convert the MIDI to a style.

That is the essence of this video because not all people have the StyleMagic program.
CASM data on CHD1 will remain unchanged, settings from the original Style will be used.
That's why the inserted PAD plays correctly.
Of course, when we use a different PAD that plays a melodic phrase, we'll put it on the PHR channel.

Another way, that I use, is to identify Parts of Styles that fit your requirement. In this case, Styles having Parts with a nice Arpeggio, but I do the same for other kind of Parts:

-save that Style in a special folder that I named "Style Parts"; and rename the Style by writing in the first part of the name something that will tell you easy what is in there (example: Girls Choir);
-when in any Style you like to add an Arpeggio Part, go in Style Creator, ASSEMBLY, and copy the Arpeggio Part from the Style you saved in Style Parts.
-That's it.

I do the same for various accompaniment Parts (Choirs, Organ Slow/Fast, Pads of various Octaves, Piano Parts, ecc.). It's very easy, and you can make a collection of Parts that you can copy trough Assembly in a minute.

Genos has an immense amount of different Styles Parts, and Assembly allow us to take good profit of this richness. And so many Arpeggio's Parts for Synth, Piano, Guitar, ecc.
Yamaha Styles Programmers devoted big time and efforts to create Style Parts, and it is a  pity not to benefit of the thousands of Parts available....for free.

The trick is to save in the Style Parts Folder the interesting Parts whenever you find them.

I do something similar.

I write down what I liked, the style name and where it is in the style.

Example:

Pedal Steel & Fiddle parts: Bluegrass2 M/A, M/B, M/D

Where M/A means Main A
