Microphone and onboard speakers

Ever since I purchased my PSR SX900 I have not been come able to sing into a microphone and have the vocal come out of the onboard
speakers.

I have tried every thing I could think of and read from the manual to no avail.

What type of mic are you using? Condenser?

You have to use a dynamic mic, and you have to adjust the gain knob at the back of the keyboard.

Ken, the D880 has an XLR connector. What are you using for a cable? The options would be an XLR to 1/4" TS (tip-sleeve) which adapts the balanced connection of the mic to the unbalanced input of the SX900 or an XLR to XLR cable to an XLR to 1/4" transformer adapter (see link below). If you are using an XLR to 1/4" TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) cable there's a good chance it may not work.

I used to have the same problem here.
I had my dynamic mic ending in XLR with an XLR to stereo 6.5mm jack adaptor.
I've solve this changing the adaptor to mono one.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I now have a new microphone and have attached a Super Sound High Impedance Transformer MT-50 and I have sound from the microphone coming through the speakers.
However it needs work on the settings and it would be much appreciated if I could receive some assistance.

Hi Ken,

You don't need to use such a High-impedance Transformer in-between. To connect a standard low-impedance dynamic mic, just use an unbalanced "XLR-female to mono TS plug" cable as mentioned. Make sure the SX900"s Mic/Guitar switch on the rear panel is set to MIC. Then this input set to connect a standard low-impedance mic.

Then use the Mic GAIN knob on the SX900's rear panel to set the Mic Input Gain correctly. Refer to pages 100/101 in SX900 Owner's Manual for this.

Finally make sure the Mic is switched ON in Mic Setting display and set the desired Mic Volume there (depending of course also on the currently set Master Volume).

Please also read the chapter "8 Microphone" from page 93 in SX900 Reference Manual.
