Changing volume of drum kit parts that are on one track

Hi everyone. I am trying to edit the volume of a recorded drum part that are on one track (channel 10). I want to turn down the hi-hat, turn up the snare etc. I usually record my drum parts on separate channels and I change the parameters that way, but i'm sure it is possible to do this when on one track. I use Cakewalk, and have downloaded XGworks and mixmaster, but can't figure out how to do change the volume like this.
Another way I was thinking was to adjust volume by velocity (changing velocity to certain parts on the one track) any info would be appreciated.

I am using Tyros 2 and PSR s970
