I use StyleMagic primarily as an editor. I forgot about how that works since I stopped trying to make styles from MIDI files a long time ago. I have been focused on dance styles for the last several years and MIDI songs are not good for that. The first and only style I created from a MIDI had 2 bars per Section. But Yamaha styles can use up to 32 bars per Section to create variations on melodic phrases, Bass lines, etc.

I had a license but I needed to renew my subscription.
Thomasz did not charge me the full price.

For me StyleMagicYA is worth the money.

Hi Etienne
I thought that you get a free upgrade if you already have a licence . Upgrades should not be a full price situation. At the worst less price than a new person buying.
There is nothing about renewing a subscription 100%

I find this strange. I'm wondering if Thomas is issuing a full install version (upgrade not possible) due to the several changes in the program. I was expecting upgrades but he sent me 2 full install versions (for both dongles) I assumed because I helped with beta testing.

That's reasonable considering the improvements he made and the amount of work he put into the new features. Last year he indicated he would charge for upgrades so this is consistent with what he said he would do for future upgrades.

Etienne, did you receive an upgrade file or a full install file? If full install... that's worth the price.

It was an upgrade file.
The full version needed to be on the PC, before installing the upgrade.

Thomas has posted and update to the free IDL Editor v2. I'm not sure what was fixed with v2.1 but I downloaded it and will use it in the future when I add more expansion pack Voice Definition files to StyleMagic.

I have sent Thomas an email earlier today asking what is going to happen.
I have got the demos uploaded on my music computer with no way to make it lose it's demo tag. (Stylemagic and Midi Magic.)
Nothing in my email to suggest an upgrade or anything as yet.
I find all of this a weird way of doing things when the demo's are on sale on Midisoft site.

Well i have sent the money last night because as Etienne said the subscription ran out.
I found that rather odd as a subscription is for paying installments or for a magazine. Why not everyone pay just for upgrades who has the programs??
Just because it went over 12 months before his next update. New customers will benefit mostly who purhased inside a 12 month window.
The program as you say is worth it but i am wainting now for him to send me the full version or upgrade the ones that i have got Stylemagic and Midiworks.
Hopefully today sometime

Did you get this sorted?
I've just upgraded too, and it's looking good with no issues.
I found my original receipt from when I purchased the original, it was in 2016 so I've had fantastic use of it for the price paid.
There was no argument to me upgrading as I've always had first class service from Thomas

My situation is different because I was a beta tester for v350 so he sent me the full install version and not an update. In the past he has sent an email to all registered owners of the StyleMagic when there was an update. Not sure if he did that this time and if he indicated there would be a charge for the upgrade.

Maybe someone here can explain how they got the update. There is no info on his website that there is a charge for the 3.5.0 update.

Will the license that I have be valid for the new version 3.5.0 ?

Answer from Thomasz :
You need a subscription.
The subscription price is 1/3 of the license price.

After payment via PayPal Thomasz sended me the update link for the new version.
He also wrote that the full version needed to be on my PC to be able to install the update.

No email received here so after reading the posts on here, I emailed Thomas.
He sent me the upgrade details and I replied asking for a payment request. Once paid, Thomas sent a link to download the upgrade software specifying that the original, full version must be installed and if there was a problem with that to contact him again.

A little patience is needed for the emails to be answered but it was all done over two days and I was in no hurry

I sent an email to Thomas suggesting that he sends an email to ALL registered users of StyleMagic and let them know there is now a subscription price to acquire StyleMagic v3.5.0 and how much is the cost. I think he will sell more copies that way. He put a lot of work into this latest version and the improvements are very good.

I have also emailed Thomas, because styles created for PSR-A5000, with different time signatures, are not quite parsed correctly. It display them wrong in MultiEditor. And if this will be available for Genos too, it is good to make it work correctly with these types of styles.

After a few days using the latest version of Style Magic, purchase last week (early March 2022), I found it is very useful for working on styles. There are a few things that confuse me, I hope these will clear out with time spent using this software.

Thinking about purchasing MidiWorks.

Once you understand Thomas' conventions things will become clearer. It takes time to learn new software. Just remember when you buy Midiworks let Thomas know you wish to use the same dongle as StyleMagic.

I am about to purchase StyleMagic YA, is it necessary to have a dedicated USB drive as a dongle, or can it contain other stuff ?

I highly recommend that you buy a small thumb drive the SanDisk Fit. It can have files on it but it's small and can even be formatted. Having a dongle makes StyleMagic portable in that you can plug the dongle into any computer and the program will run. In that case you would have to have a copy of the program on the dongle. If you are not going to plug the dongle into another computer then just install it on your regular MIDI PC.

It's a great program for not only editing styles. You can edit Multi Pads if you change the file extension from .pad to .mid.
Another way to edit Multi Pads is to pass the MP file from MixMaster to StyleMagic. When you save the MP in StyleMagic it will pass the MP back to MixMaster. Then you can save the MP in MixMaster.

Also if you have expansion packs you can add the expansion pack Voice lists to StyleMagic. YEM-CE has a function to create Voice lists for expansion packs, then use the free utility IDL Editor to add the Voice lists to your regular Instrument Voice list.
