Hi all,

My cousin is looking to buy a Genos but surprisingly, its not available in India (out of stock since last 4-5 months, as the dealer in Mumbai, India says)

Is it because of Genos2 that Genos1 is out of production line, or is there any other reason ? Should I suggest him to wait for some time and get Genos 2 instead?

Also, he has recently sold his Tyros 3 and now wants to get another keyboard. He is more of a piano type player, that why I am suggesting him to go for Genos instead of SX900, for the superior keybed experience.

If money was just 30% of the criteria, should he buy Genos or get SX900 ? Any suggestions appreciated.

Hello Anand,
It is unknown when Genos successor will come to the market, and at what price. Many think it will be this year and it's expected to be quite expensive. So, the question is, how long is your cousin ready to wait and if he's ready to pay the unknown price?
On the other hand, being in different class, SX900 just can't be compared to Genos -especially Genos keybed, which is of higher quality. And if he is a piano type, then he would for sure appreciate 76 keys.
Now, even Genos is on market for quite a while (and still available in Europe), it's price is double of SX900. In short, it's impossible to give an advice -he must try SX900 in store and see by himself.

I guess the second hand Genos might be available as of August/Sept/Oct 2023. Who knows.

I expect the Genos successor's price will be approx. 10 - 15 % higher than the present list price : 5,500 Euro ?
Only time will tell.

Hopefully Yamaha will add a lot of new styles ...  ;)

Best regards, JH

Hello Anand! If your cousin is a piano type player he might also be content with the DGX670. It has 88 weighted keys, and has many of the Genos styles amd functions. Much lower price.

Personally at this point I'd wait to at least end of November to see if there is a Genos II.
There are 3 scenarios:

  • A Genos II is announced before then and will have all new bells and whistles making the Genos look inferior
  • A Genos+ is announced before then and will only be a minimal update: new colour(s) possibly, more styles, some enhancements such as seamless switching. Maybe even a V3 software update is rolled out to give several of these features to existing Genos owners.
  • Nothing new is announced except for perhaps a V3 software update that may be significant enough to attract new buyers.

If I HAD to buy an arranger now I'd probably go for a second hand barely used Genos or SX900 as I think that is the best value at this point.

For the best keybed combo (and if price is not a problem) I'd go with a Kawai MP11SE with second hand Genos or SX900. It would be easy to swap the upper keyboard for something new whilst keeping the Kawai as the main controller for years.
Anything plastic is just not a proper piano experience in essence but sure try the DGX as mentioned.
But also the MP11SE is out of stock in most areas and NAMM in April in LA may reveal an MP12, MP120, MP1200 or whatever. Worth bearing in mind.

There still appears to be a shortage in products which is partially helping to push up inflation and why higher interest rates aren't having the desired effects (yet).

Discounts don't always mean a new product is on its way. They were selling Genoses with 25% off in several places in summer last year here in the UK. (AC Hamilton and also Bonners had big discounts I remember seeing).
Without Music, Life would be a Mistake.

I have Tyros 5 for sale which is in top condition with 1 GB flash memory installed, It has same key bed like Genos better than SX900. If your friend interested to buy, he can contact me.

Hi , might just be a case that Yamaha was having problems getting components for the keyboards because of the problems Covid caused.

Korg were/are having problems.

( not suggesting a Korg, stay with what you like😀)

Hi everyone,

Thanks a lot for your replies. I guess my cousin may choose between a second Hand Genos / Tyros 5 or a new SX900 for now.

Warm Regards
Anand

I've given up making predictions based upon spot shortages of specific models. The pandemic created too many supply issues. Or, for another example, avian flu is now causing egg shortages and price hikes in our region. One cannot read too much into regional economic forces and conditions.

All the best -- pj
