I have a suggestion for YAM .Increase the Expansion Memory fm 1GB to 2GB and please please do something to reduce the loading time of the Packs. At present 1GB of packs takes around 20 mins or so to load. This is a horrible and a frustrating situation. Looks like we are in the 80s when the computer speeds used to be around 5/10Mhz.I am sure with the state of Art, Yamaha Can address this issue and give us a better KB with increased expansion memory alongwith reduced loading time for the packs.

You have to remember that the Expansion memory is also formatted before the load starts. I have sorted out all the voices I am ever likely to use and these stay loaded all the time so it dose not worry me that on occasions I may want to change things and reload whilst I am doing other things.

The 1GB is not a limitation of YEM but rather a physical limit of the SX900 keyboard itself.

I downloaded 6 x Packs last week following a memory block issue with my SX-700 and it only took about 6 minutes from inserting the USB into the keyboard, and pressing Load Packs to having them installed on the keyboard.

Some of the packs are quite small, others are not, so bear that in mind. Maybe go and have a cup of tea while they load?

Hi all,

As most of us know by now, the Expansion Memory (i.e. the memory where the WAVE samples of the Expansion Voices are stored during the Pack Installation) is a so-called "NAND Flash" memory. This memory type can be READ extremely quickly by the internal Tone Generator, but unfortunately this memory type can only be WRITTEN relatively slowly.

Compared to the Tyros5, Yamaha was already able to significantly increase the write speed with the Pack Installation on Genos, PSR-SX and PSR-Sx7x models. But obviously with the current Tone Generator (SWP70) and the current NAND Flash IC types (W29N08GVSIAA / W29N04GVSIAA / S34ML04G100TFI000) no further increase in the write speed is possible.

Best regards,
Chris
