Jeff Hollande

I wonder how our dear friend, Pianoman from Ibiza, is doing.

Hope and pray he is doing well.

I am looking forward to hearing some good news from him soon.

All the best, Pianoman. 😀

Best regards, Jeff from The Netherlands

Jeff, he is really struggling, financially, because the island is basically shut down, especially for indoor entertainment. He is to the point where he has posted a Go Fund Me request at https://gofund.me/df9dcfd1

He is a good friend and a great entertainer/musician, and he has contributed a lot to this forum during his short time here.

All the best,

Anyone who relies on entertaining for their whole income is in trouble. And it could be a while before the situation improves in Spain. Even if they ease restrictions locally in Ibiza, nearly all the tourists that support the hospitality and entertainment business in the Mediterranean islands come from countries that have banned travel. So almost no one is going on vacation to these islands.
It's going to be tough for them to recover from this.

Mike, I was very fortunate that during my 30 years on stage as a full time entertainer/singer/musician I did not have to deal with Covid-19. though as it turns out, there were far more contagious and deadly diseases out there at the time. We just did not respond to them in the same way we responded to Covid-19. Was it the correct response? No one will ever know, mainly because it became a political issue instead of a public health issue, such as the common, annual flu, Tuberculosis (which was 10 times more contagious and deadly) and many others that the average person was unaware even existed. Unfortunately, for those who were still working last March, when Covid came to light, much of the world came to a screeching halt, And, if your job was considered essential, you were forced to find another way to make a living. I was forced to retire two years earlier because of health issues, and because I looked at musical entertainment from a business standpoint, I was able to create my own retirement plan over 3 decades and walk away with a good income. Most folks in this industry never seem to think things like this can happen and few, if any, prepare for the eventuality of retirement, or having another, reliable source of income.

I am confident that the musical entertainment business will slowly return by this fall. In the mean time, I will do what I can to help those in need get through this interim.

All the best,

I see it already returning in the USA, in the last month I have been to a few restaurants around Houston which had entertainers. And the cruise ship industry, which employs many entertainers, is getting going again in July. In parts of the world where they rely on international tourist travel it might be slower to recover, but I agree that the Fall might be when see some normality across the world.

I talked with Abby this afternoon and he said he performed his first job this afternoon since March a  year ago. He said it did not pay very much, but any port in a storm. The booked him again for early July. That's a long time between low paying jobs.

Cheers,

Thank you kindly for all your feedback and information.👍

I was afraid Abby was in financial trouble.
It looks like the entertainment business in Ibiza was his only source of income.
Maybe he could find an alternative in the meantime, I hope.

Hopefully as of July 2021 the sun will shine again for Abby.
He really deserves all the best and luck in the world.

Let us cross our fingers.
Thank you all for your Abby's support.

Leading Edge

Thank you Gary for the update on Pianoman.  I guess a lot of us were wondering how he was doing given the Covid situation.
